Names of the stages of construction of a brick house?
Oct 30, 2007 by hakea73 | Posted in Do It Yourself (DIY)
Can anyone help, I need to name the stages of construction (for an assignment) of a brick house from excavation to ...lock-up? I believe there are 13-15 stages each requiring different sub-contractors. Even links to sites would be really helpful, as even with that I am having no luck!
1.Grading the lot
2.Digging the foundation hole
3.Pouring the foundation (that includes footers and retaining walls)
4.Framing the house
5.Roofing
6.Exterior finish (Brick, vinal, azak and all combination)
7.Concrete flat work
8.Plumbing (rough in)
9.Electical (rough in)
10.HVAC (rough in)
11.Drywall
12.Painting
13.Flooring
14.Cabinets
15.Trim out (includes electical, plumbing, HVAC, and house trim [ interior doors, window and door casing trim, baseboard, etc..])
16.Touch ups (walls might be scatched, holes in trim need to be filled and touched up.)

I've been in the trades a long time; and never quite heard of LISTED stages; but I offer two cents; because the PROCESS makes sense.
Grading the property
Digging for a basement/ or framing to pour a slab
Pouring footers
Install Blocks as the basis of the brick work
Install brick
Depending on the design begin stud work to finish and truss work for the roof.
Intsall roofing
Add plumbing and electrical raw as the foundation or slab are being installed
That's less than 15, but certainly more; before and after are needed.
Others could include
Drywall hangers/finishers
Painters
Flooring contractors
Etc. Etc.

To add to Doc's answer, he is assuming you mean full brick construction.
Here we mainly use timber framing and use the brick as a veneer.

How to select good quality bricks for house construction? pls suggest simple ways?
Aug 18, 2008 by jans | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling
Pls suggest simple ways tp assess the quality of bricks to be used for construction of house.
check the bricks if they get easily broken out it means - (kacchi) not good.
all can not be of same size but most of them should be almost same (6"x4"x3") size.
also check their color which should be dark red ( you will be aware of brick color) showing that it has been burns enough (bricks bhatte).
over burnt also not considered in good brick

House under construction, lower half of brick lighter than upper, now bldr. staining brick, will it last long?
Jan 18, 2007 by kerry | Posted in Other - Home & Garden
Bob Vila wouldn't trust it. Staining existing brick to match with newer construction brick is practiced by professionals who specialize in masonry. With new construction, the concern is in the quality of the brick - why is there the variation in color? Could be a problem within the mix/batch resulting in future problems down the road. I'd want the brick manufacturer to explain it to me, if Ok - would want to know the credentials of the ones doing the staining. Either way I'd want a guarantee in writing.

Why is wood used for house construction in USA? Why concrete/Bricks are not entirely used?
Jun 08, 2007 by Susheel | Posted in Other - Home & Garden
Primarily a matter of cost. Lots of renewable trees makes for lower costs of materials and construction.
However, cost is not always the driver. In Florida, were I live, the vast majority of homes are made out of cement blocks and brick these days. This is, of course, because they withstand Hurricane force winds much better than wood.

Expalin the impact of an increase in house construction on the price and quantity supplied of bricks. ?
Jan 12, 2009 by Ryosuke N | Posted in Economics
I have a homework, but I can't answer this question.
so Could you answer this question?
Well, the answer the homework wants is that with more construction, more bricks will be needed. So, all other things being equal, what comes with greater demand for a product?
Of course, the real world is not so neat. There are places where the bricks are not "supplied" but made as part of the building process. This is common for adobe bricks in Mexico, parts of Africa, etc. In such cases, the question makes no sense.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adobe
In countries such as the U.S. and England, bricks are rarely used for house construction. This is not because bricks are expensive, but because manually laying bricks take a great deal of labor and labor is expensive.
Thus an increase in the construction of low-cost homes or very expensive homes that use stone rather than brick would increase the demand for brick at all. In the U.S., brick buildings tend to be far more common in the Northeast and Southeast, but are almost never used in the West so an increase in the construction of houses that is regional will have different impacts depending on the region.
Then there is the issue of "bricks" as if that were a single type. Needless to say, that isn't the case either. I've already mentioned adobe bricks, but even among "common" bricks there are many types - different colors, different surface treatments, etc. And these different types have radically different prices and fashion, as much as anything else, determines which are in more demand at any given time:
