Brick siding?
Mar 07, 2007 by Mai N | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling
1/3 of right brick siding of my house hanged out of the foundation line ( about 1inch) meanwhile the other 2/3 of the siding is lined up with the foundation edge. Will this causes any damage for my house in the futur? How do we fixed it?
This is not an unusual situation. It is common for brick veneer to overhang the top of the foundation, especially of it is a poured concrete foundation. If the foundation forms were not perfectly square (and they rarely are), what you see is the result. Bricklayers lay their brick to a straight string and they will make the overhang as small as posslble when they determine the locations of the corners of the brick veneer.
In the end, you shouldn't have any problem.
Good luck with all of your home improvement projects.

first of all, brick exteriors on a building are not refered to as siding. it is commonly refered to as brick veneer. furthermore it is not hung, it is laid. i hope you didn't get too flustered by the use of terms like laid and hung.
but seriously, no, that shouldn't be a problem as long as the mortar joints between the bricks are still intact. check on it from time to time. it's not something prone to catastrophic failure. any problems will likely be gradual. watch for cracked mortar joints. my guess is that when the house was built, the foundation and the structure above were not perfectly square to one another.the bricklayer was just following the wall.

Brick veneers ALWAYS have problems. It's just a matter of time. Brick and mortar are porous materials, in other words. water can seep through. You're at the mercy of your waterproofing behind the veneer. Sorry about the bad news...good luck.

Don't worry about it. It should be fine. Its not good bricklaying of course, or not a straight foundation, but its there to stay and it'll be ok. Don't worry and don't get scammed by anyone telling you to spend money to rebuild it. Oh, also, pay no attention to Droolie's answer above. Brick buildings have stood for many centuries and far outlive and outperform all other materials for walls.

I need some advice to paint my brick exterior siding?
Aug 18, 2006 by sparkie | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling
the house it's old and the brick looks kind of ugly. I would like to know if it's a good idea to paint brick siding. I am getting this house ready for sale.
dont go to the expense of painting, get in a super washer to clean it down. if you do paint use a natural colour as its hard to please people and most like colours that you cannot predict!!

Could you put siding over brick?
Jun 12, 2008 by Montreal SOS | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling
I recently bought a 4 side brick fixer upper and I want to convert the third and smallest bedroom into a master bath and walk in closet, however the windows are causing a problem, meaning I would have to close them up and put siding on that will match the addition (master bedroom). I know most people would not do it, however I need a second bath in this home. But if takes alway from the brick bungalow feel, I will not do it.
YOu could put siding into brick. You need to nail furring strips into the wall and then the siding to the furring strips.

Any idea how much it costs to do brick face siding .. more or less?
May 29, 2008 by meandmybabe1014 | Posted in Other - Home & Garden
My home is 25X100 and it has vinyl siding all around except for the lower half (that part is concrete) . That lower part is where I'd like to put the brick faced siding.
There are approximately 7 bricks per square foot. Bricks should cost you between $0.30 and $0.45 each. Mortar will probably cost you $300 or more for the brick. Labor is subjective to who you hire.
Important note: hire someone who is good. It's really easy to screw up brick face siding. It's also really easy to do it right.

Can you cover old brick with modern siding?
May 08, 2007 by naturalphase | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
Our home has very old brick that we cant even find anywhere for sale! It needs tuckpointing in places...but we cant afford it. We heard that covering it in siding could actually wreck our house. WE have to do something about the appearance!
Yes you can, I live in an old school house and did it to mine. I used concrete nails and construction adhesive to add nailers every 16 inches, and then you can install the siding. Mine has been on for 10 plus years.
