How do I mend a brick wall & replace current brick mending?
Jan 24, 2007 by Jewel | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
I have a house and the brick walls have these long bolts and big wooden washers that are 1x4. The long bolt goes through the wall, and these ugly wooden washers, that are on here to keep the bricks together are here.
Is there another method I could use to stop or repsir the cracks in the brick walls, by removing these things and doing something else?
I don't want the walls to fall down, but I want to repair them differently to make them nicer looking. Outside you can see the obvious cracks/separation of the bricks.
It is awful to look at them in my bedroom & kitchen. They ruin the room's appeal.
It sounds like you need to get your foundation repaired before you think about doing anything to the wall.
Any repair to the wall will be for nothing if the foundation continues to dhift.

How to build a fake brick wall?
Mar 29, 2007 by violetnewyork | Posted in Do It Yourself (DIY)
Me and my friends need to build a fake brick wal, because we're reconstructing the scene from Mallrats for one of our film classes. What would be the cheapest way to build a brick wall? (aside from finiding an actual brick wall)
i am not very good in this, but i'd imagine make four lines of wood - put them all together on the floor. Screw them together then put a board measured same type (do all the details of the measurements) and screw them four sides of the wood. then you can colour the bored and it won't show that it is around the wooden made thing.
i'm not sure, but seen some builders make this.
why don't you go:

How to renovate the exterior brick wall?
Jul 20, 2007 by crazyprogrammer | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
my house's exterior wall looks very old. Bricks are still in good condition. Only the mortar between the bricks is not good. someone is missing.
How can I renovate the brick wall? Can I just fill mortar in it? or something else?
I also see my neighbour's brick wall is very nice. they have color in mortar. How can I add color in mortar?
thanks
Tuck-pointing is a very tedious job and usually left to the experts....
depending on the required joint finish it can take months to do a single average dwelling....for one person...
mortar is prepared by removing all loose and cracked bulk, pressure cleaning with a high pressure water blaster is also recommended so as to remove any lichen and or fungi growth etc. ...acid cleaning with a mid strength HCL acid solution is also helpful if pressure blaster is not available....
If you are inexperienced with using mortar and in tuck-pointing then I suggest that you try an inconspicuous area to practise/try out first as if you stuff it up it can be quite an eye-sore.....
mortar is 4 fine brickies sand, 1 cement, 1 fire clay, bi col or other plasticiser to water at recommended rate, add coloured oxide at trialed strength to each mix exactly the same quantity & brand throughout the entire job or the color will differ.....
Practice getting the mix right before starting the job for real....
the mix must be " plastic " or you will have it falling out on you...
a grouting gun can be used but the old method was to use a angled straight-edge to slide the mortar into the joint with a pointing trowel.....
when you get sick of it .... call a pro....
Alternately you could " Bag " or render the walls with a coloured render..... more materials... less time and expertise ...

How do I frame a concrete brick wall while remodeling an old house?
Apr 26, 2008 by riflespinner2000 | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling
We are in the process of remodeling an old concrete brick house after a fire and fire hose flood. In order to bring the house up to code we have to rewire a few walls and add power receptacles. We also want to add insulation. Our idea was to put normal 2X4 framed walls in front of the old concrete walls. This way we could wire and insulate the old house. What is the best way to attach the 2x4 wall to the old concrete wall? This also all has to meet code.
There is no reason to attach the framed wall to the concrete. You can simply build a wall that runs from the floor to the joists above (you may need to add blocking to catch the top plate if the wall runs parallel to the joists). If the floor is concrete, use a pressure treated bottom plate. Snap a chalk line on the floor where you want the wall. Measure up to the bottom of the joists (or blocking), subtract 3", and cut your studs to this length. When you stand the wall, anchor the bottom along the line, then check the wall for plumb at several points. Nail the top plate to the joists and you are done. Hope this helps.

How to build a straight brick wall?
Apr 14, 2007 by femi a | Posted in Do It Yourself (DIY)
I want to build a brick wall but don't know the tools for making the walls perfectly straight and vertical. I know I can use a rope as a guide for making the walls straight in a horizontal direction. Any suggestions?
I would use a laser. You can purchase one at Home Depot really cheap.
