I have a shower with white old tiles, brick walls. Can I install ceramic tile ontop of the old white tiles?
Feb 02, 2007 by dualpatty | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling
My shower walls are around a combination shower tub. My walls are brick. Can I just paste on ceramic glass tile on top of the white ceramic tile shower walls?
That does not sound like a good idea.
Normally one has a base as plywood (brick in your case). Next black paper is affixed, the a substrate as wonder board on which you place the thin-set and then the tiles.
What would likely happen is if you apply thin-set to the old tiles they will not adhere. You would then be in worse shape and have even more work.
In my opinion it is better to do the job correctly and remove the old tiles.
Before you undertake such a job, be sure you understand it because you'll need tools e.g. a tile cutter, etc.
It is great fun to do tile work, but it requires patience and knowledge.
Good luck.

ive heard you can do it if the ones in now are solid, but i wouldnt recommend it
besides you will have a problem with the thickness on the edges, you will have stacked tiles exposed, how will you cover it and make it look good?

No this is not a good solid base for the new material. You need to get down to the supporting structure weather it is dry wall, wood, brick or whatever. If you just keep piling stuff on top of one another it will look nasty and fall apart.

Yes you can but only if the tiles that are there are firmly attached.
You will need to roughen the surface of the old tiles with a grinder or hammer to crack .. not smash up ... (obviously the best way is to remove the old tiles if possible)
Use building adhesive instead of tile glue and tape (eg packing tape) each row of tiles in place or use spacers until adhesive sets then do the next row.
have fun and good luck

What's that saying...? "Anything worth doing is worth doing right." Take a little more time and remove the old tile. It will be more work, but in the end, you will be so much happier that you did. And, it will make a HUGE difference in the resale value of the home.

How do you make food not stick to my oven tile/brick?
Dec 12, 2006 by Crizzle Gizzle | Posted in Cooking & Recipes
I was making cookies today, and was able to get them to not stick by putting a lot of flour on the tile. BUT, then the cookies came out with the flour stuck to them. So then I tried with a light (I stress light) amount of flour, and the cookies ended up sticking to the tile. What methods can I use to not let food stick to my oven tile/brick? Thanks, and I do check back to give the best answer the points they deserve.
**It is sticking directly to the tile itself. Like when I use the spatula to remove it...I can tell that the bottom of the cookie is stuck to the tile. With the flour, they came off very VERY easily...but left a floury resideu on the bottom of the cookies.
***Yes, first time I have used it. And I preheated it before placing the cookies on top. I think crushed nuts would do well tho. Any specific kinds of nuts would do?
**** Not cookie sheet. An actual tile/brick that people also use for pizza. It can also be used for cookies.
You are pre-heating those tile/bricks? Stick with what you know, pun intended, crushed nuts, dried bread crumbs, assuming that the recipe is in balance. Is this the first time that you've used these tiles?

What is the approximate cost of brick tile per square foot?
Dec 13, 2007 by April_Tiffany | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling
We would like to tile our kitchen with brick tile, but have no idea how it compares to other flooring options as far as expense. Can't find any websites with prices and don't want to be haggled to death by asking for an estimate.
Hey, I checked with National Construction Estimator.
It's a free site but hard to navigate. shearch flooring first.
Good luck, because your going to need it.

How do I put brick tile over formica walls?
Oct 01, 2008 by Gina | Posted in Do It Yourself (DIY)
I have bright white formica walls in my kitchen. It's attached to the paneling in behind it. I cannot get it to come apart or come down at all.
Can I put tile over the formica walls? If so, how? and if not, why?
Thanks.
I have done it. Sanded the Formica very well first to rough it up and then used a very strong GLUE to adhere the tile to the wall. Worked out fine.

Can i tile over tile over my brick fireplace?
Mar 03, 2009 by alldayworker | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling
I have installed tile over my brick fireplace about 8 yrs ago i am now tired of it and want to retile it. The problem is removing the old tile? Is it possible i could retile over it and what kind of adhessive should i use and how would i prepeare the old tiles for this, if it is possible.
You can as long as your edging up to the FP and the open edges ( if there are some) can be covered or properly made to look good. You only have to please yourself ... Any good latex modified thin set will work as long as the surface is clean and dry.. Allow an extra day or two for the thin set to dry before grouting.. Hope fully the tile you get now is a slightly different size if possible, you don t want to have a grout joint over a grout joint.. Any questions you can e mail me thru my avatar and check my qualifications there GL
