Is it absolutely necessary to use a caulking gun when applying caulk?
Oct 29, 2008 by Piumi A | Posted in Do It Yourself (DIY)
This probably sounds like a stupid question but I'd just like to avoid having to buy a caulking gun if possible. I need to use caulk for a school project and I'll be using quite a lot of it as well.
Thanks!
I've already bought the caulk I need so I can't try the squeeze tube kind.
You can purchase caulk in a squeeze tube. (just like tooth paste)

You could just cut open the tube with a box cutter and slap it on with a putty knife, or whatever.

the first part of your ? was correct.

DAP makes a chaulk that comes in a tube, and you can squeeze it like toothpaste.
It's cheap, so you can get a couple of tubes of it. Other wise you'll need to get a chaulking gun for $3.99 at home depot.

Well you don't absolutely need one... If you push on the bottom of the tube hard enough it will come out, might be kinda messy, but you won't need a caulk gun.
Good Luck on that task :-)

You can purchase one for only $4-5. Applying caulk from a tube without one is going to be time consuming and very messy. Maybe you can find someone you can borrow one from.

A caulk gun is $5

The caulking gun is a $1 item at the dollar store.
Any alternative will cost more unless you whittle a stick to fit.

Ask around and see if you can borrow a caulk gun (although they're really not that expensive). If you're using quite a bit of it, you may seriously regret not having the caulk gun. I think it will be difficult for you to get it out in a stream without the gun.
Or, you could go return the caulk you bought and buy the squeeze tube kind.
Good luck.

If you already bought the caulk and it's in the tubes used with a caulk gun, your only options are either get a caulk gun or cut the end of the whole tube off and scrape it out. I'd say get a cheapie caulk gun, shouldn't be more than $8-10. Will make the project a lot easier and neater!

How do I plug a caulking gun tip after use?
Feb 27, 2008 by Mae W | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
How can I plug up my caulking gun tip after using it? I have problems with after use. It will clog and harden from the top to bottom of the tip. I have to cut and dig out the hard part for the next use. I tried a nail and it hardens around it! Help!!
I use a screw that is slightly larger than the hole in the tip.
On the other hand, if you do not plan to use the caulk within a month or two, toss it.
I have found that silicone caulks do not cure when it gets old.

My new caulking gun is stuck?
Jun 25, 2007 by Dog Rescuer | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
My new caulk gun I just used to seal four outside windows stuck after i pulled the caulk tube out...The rod is half way down the tube holder and stuck..Any suggestions on how to get the rod with the tube holder to push back out..I'm NOt done with caulking my outside house yet...
I agree with Stevetower. A lot of caulking guns have some sort of mechanism that must be depressed in order to pull the rod out and load another tube.

What is the best way to remove the nail from a caulking gun?
Apr 29, 2008 by David S | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling
We tried using a pliers and also tried warming up the end of the gun. Neither one of these worked.
Cut the tip down the length. Then pull it out. Then use some tape tightly wrapped around the tip the mend the cut and make the tip useable again.

I've just bought a caulking gun for the first time and can't work out how to release the bar ...?
Mar 01, 2008 by bgu | Posted in Do It Yourself (DIY)
in order to fit the sealant tube in. I know this is really stupid, but should appreciate some help please...
Thank you both very much -- bar now duly released!
If you push the locking plate down the pressure is released
or
As you squeeze the trigger the pressure bar lock plate is released slightly to allow the pressure bar to move so at this point you should be able to pull back the preasure rod.
or
Sometimes you have to tap the pressure bar lock plate slightly with a hammer to get the release
I assume you have the ratchet rod caulk gun, this is the inexpensive type that requires a lot of hand preasure and does not provide a stop caulk flow.
I use the smooth rod dripless caulk gun. It does cost more. It does not require as much hand preasure, it has a releasing pressure rod that help with caulk flow a cutting tube tip and a piercing tool for the caulk Tube.
No question is stupid if you need an answer to solve a problem!
