I live in central Florida where it is in the 90's, however, I keep the AC running at 80, and the fan running sometimes, and the house is extremely cool.
I just moved into a new house with very high cathedral ceilings.
Is that the reason the house stays cool because the ceiling is so high?
The warmer air would rise into the ceiling areas above 8', and
you would be feeling the cooler air at the lower level. You could use a thermometer to record the temperature in both areas and compare. It might just be you have a very efficient cooling system and house.

How do I know if my ceilings are cathedral or not?
May 21, 2008 by CC | Posted in Other - Home & Garden
I'm moving into a new apartment that claims its ceilings are cathedral (a big selling point, obviously), but they seem to be standard height to me...
Can cathedral ceilings be defined just by a certain height or is it the style? Is my leg getting pulled here??
Cathedral means they aren't flat. Do they have a slope to them ? If so they are Cathedral.

We have cathedral/vaulted ceilings. I was wondering in the winter/summer months which was should our ceiling fan be turning. Since heat rises in the winter wouldn't we want it pushed down?? I don't know...please help.
The correct answer is ti have the fan turning counter-clockwise in the summer and clockwise in the winter.

What is the cheapest and best way to install an island stove and sink in a home with cathedral ceilings?
May 20, 2007 by Linda B | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling
I would like to add an island in my home that includes a sink and a stove. I would like to have the exhaust unnoticeable, preferably under the flooring but I have a concrete foundation and cathedral ceilings. Can this be done without demantling my home and without selling my first born?
What you want is a downdraft ventilation system. The vent would actually be recessed into the cabinet unit until you need it and then it basically glides up.
I imagine that you're do a complete remodel because you want a sink in the island. Everything else would be relatively inexpensive, but the plumbing has the potential to be expensive because I dont know where the plumbing lines are located.
