how do you clean up the glow stick goo off of walls and ceilings?
Jul 11, 2007 by Princessa | Posted in Cleaning & Laundry
i opened up a glow stick and flung the contents onto several walls and ceilings and need to know if anyone can tell me what to clean it up with other than hot water and grease fighting dish soap.

How in the heck did you get glow stick goo everywhere? I would try any product containing orange citrus, that stuff does really good with grease and I would think glow stick goo would be similar to grease.

glow-in-the-dark ceilings - good business idea?
Aug 22, 2008 by Elaine C | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling
i'd like to paint 'glow-in-the-dark' ceilings -the paint would last for 10yrs, can be done in a few hours. ideally i'd like to start a business doing this. does anyone think its a good idea and would i make realistic money from it? thanks
that would be great for kids rooms, especially if you could paint pictures or patterns that glow up when the lights are out.

look great on the ceiling and really do glow!
I actually bought this very same package at TJ Maxx (for less than $4) and am very pleased with them! I looked online first at Amazon, but I didn't want to pay the shipping, so I looked around at local stores for them.
They are awesome, and were no trouble at all to put up. I thought I'd have trouble, since my grandson's ceiling is the old popcorn type, but I had no difficulty as long as I used enough of the tacky stuff. For the two largest stars you'll want to use a small pea size glob. The different sizes of stars work great, for it lets you create the illusion that the stars are fading into the distance. You just stick the largest ones closest and as you move away you use smaller and smaller stars. We put them over my grandson's bed in hopes it would keep him in his bed until he fell asleep (he's 2). They look so neat in the dark, and in the daytime we really don't even notice they are up there (the ceiling color is off white).
They glow quite well and last for quite a long time. I'm totally pleased with them.

great if selling a home
This book is a must see for anyone updating their home on a budget, those who want to remodel without ripping everything out and throwing it in a landfill, and for anyone updating an older home.
The ideas are incredible and the resource guide tells how to get the products, talk to the artists, buy how-to CDs, take classes, etc. There are over 400 color photos with a lot of great close-ups of the details.
The artists applied the latest in paints, plasters and sealers right over tile, cement, brick, laminate, etc and achieved incredibly high end results. The basement redo was the most inspiring. They painted one 61/2 ft ceiling black and it just disappeared. The room which had no windows became a favorite room in the house.
Agreed it's not a "How to"-- sponge and paint clouds book that the one reviewer was looking for-there are tons of those books out there. And yes the before and in-progress photos are smaller than the after photos-but their purpose was just to show the incredible before and after transformations, not to provide instruction. This book is for folks who want more updated looks and advanced ideas. It has been a best seller on Amazon for 3 years and 100% of the profits go to charity. In fact enough books sold to build a habitat house for hurricane victims on Nov 09 and the artists went down and did specialty paint and plaster finishes on it. It has also raised thousands of dollars for animal rescue.
It is important to note that the house sold in 3 days with multiple offers for 125k more than they paid for it --in a down DC market. Even taking one or two ideas and applying them to your home

too much of a good thing
I'm new to faux painting and looking for simple but effective ideas. There are good ideas here, done for a good cause, and this is a fun book to page through. But - not for a beginner and the house looked like it was wearing rather too much makeup. The page layouts are even more cluttered than the decor and I couldn't really get a handle on what was going on. The pictures of "before" and "in progress" are small and not helpful to a newbie. If you're thinking about painting clouds on a ceiling, forget it. These folks are WAY beyond anything that basic and take for granted that you are, too. Luckily the library had a copy I could preview.
LOVE this Book!!!!!
I had the opportunity to see this house in person and meet the author, Adrienne van Dooren. This book--and Adrienne-- is amazing and inspiring. It brings out the creativity in everyone. AND proceeds support Katrina victums! You will be amazed at what these artisits did and have fun creating your own faux house.
best idea book ever written- wow!
This book is trully blow you away amazing!!!!!
I never knew the power of paint. I got great ideas for my own home, did them and sold it for $50,000 over comps in this down market. This is a must have book.

It happened one unspoiled afternoon, over six Valentine’s Days ago.
The sunset flooded in through the church windows and structure a dreamlike, coral pink glow over our clasped hands. We recited our vows and donned the rings. I was 26. She, 21.
At the levee, a friend of my daddy’s approached us on the cut a rug floor and said, rather unwittingly, “Nurse it, my boy. This will be the happiest wink of an eye of your life!” I thanked him for his well-mannered words and twirled away to bop with more optimistic citizenry. I hoped what the old codger said wasn’t steady; after all, marriage wasn’t the end of the odyssey, but the beginning… sane?
We glided through a sea of friends and loved ones, and though most were smiling and joyous, I detected a tinge of repentance in some of the older couples’ faces. Was it feasible that poor rogue was onto something? I took trouble to etch the evening forever to memory straight in case — the expensive ballroom with its huge, inlaid ceilings, the tables adorned with hydrangea and pudding-smelling lily of the valley, my trade mark Day-Glo-eyed bride, a sensibility of silk and embroidered satin in my arms… The music, the spread, the wine, our appropriate hearts… In fact the old man must be mistaken — union was nothing less than a blessing from the heavens! This enjoyment was bound to last forever, and only be enriched with each obsession day!
This buoyancy, this auspicious confidence, is public among freshly-married brides and grooms. Not a one of them expects the glow to gasper, to dim away, and in the course of time disappear. Deplorably, 50% of all marriages in the Unified States end in dissolution. The other half, I assume, end in death. It is rigid to say which is worse, split or death — only that a bad detach is commonly acknowledged to be worse than a real death. Why then, given proportionate chance of good fortune and failure, do resolute lovers spin the coin at such alarming rates? What misconceptions frame so many into doomed marriages? And — more importantly — what can we do to escape them?
At the Compounding reception I decided to go a little into my own world & admire the pulchritude of the hand carved wooden ceilings.
I couldn't get momentarily beneath the octagon because there was a concert going on and enough people were staring at me already. It's a handsome structure though, very complex, and very dark, with the lantern luminescent above.
