how to do suspended ceilings?
Jul 13, 2006 by roman j | Posted in Do It Yourself (DIY)
we are trying to instull suspended ceilings in our basement for bed rooms we can not find any instuctions on how do you have any suggestins?
first use a level to mark a line around the room at the height that you will hang the ceiling.a lazer level/lazer transit works great but a 4 ft. level is fine.this is where you nail your tracks.next pur together your cross braces and support with wire.place your ceiling tiles as you go.to get a cleaner finish take a measurement to start with the same size piece of tile that you will end up with on oppisite wall.example:if your room is 11ft. wide and your tile is 2ft. wide,to make up the extra foot, start with a 6in. wide piece so that you finish with a 6in. wide piece.good luck

How do I build walls when there are suspended ceilings?
Jan 21, 2009 by Jennie | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling
I need to create music studios, dividing bigger rooms into two smaller rooms, but they ceilings are drop ceilings, so how would I build solid walls that don't have spaces inbetween the rooms? Any help???
Use metal studs. Attach the bottom track to the floor with a Hilti gun or Tapcons, and then attach the top track to the grid using pan head sheet metal screws. Be sure to only screw to the "tees", not the main runners. The mains are spaced 4' apart and run continuous from one outside wall to the other. The tees snap in between the mains and are either 2' or 4' long. If you ever decide to take the walls down, it's a lot easier to replace a few tees than to replace the mains.
After you have the track in place, fill in with metal studs. 25 gauge will work, 20 gauge would be better. Insulate the wall, then cover with sound board (if desired), then drywall. Hope this helps.

Are suspended ceilings hard to install?
Feb 20, 2008 by NEWTOME | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling
Are they expensive?
It's for the laundry area of my basement. The rest of the basement is finished and the laundry room is behind bifold doors. The room looks great until you go to do laundry! There are exposed pipes above and I was thinking a suspended ceiling will allow for access to them, if that ever becomes necessary.
What about fiberglass panels?
The task is not especially hard.. provided you have some experience with a set of tin snips, level, assorted fastners, etc...
The parts required is dependent upon the base you are attaching to. This being the basement, if one of the walls is unfinished, you will have to use some type of masonry anchor at the perimeter angle. The perimeter angle is used to set the edge of your ceiling panel. The other main parts of the grid system are the commons and the fillers. Because of the weight of some ACT (accoustic ceiling tile) pieces, even some short spans may need to be suspended by wires. Do not utilize the piping systems for suspension of the grid work!
With respect to the plumbing pipes above, should they not be insulated, condesation may appear and would recommend that you use a moisture retardant type ceiling tile.
