Putting Ceramic Tile Flooring where vinyl was; does the floor have to be spotless?
Mar 24, 2006 by jtrosstexas | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling
the floor had vinyl tile and we want to put down ceramic. is it necessary to remove all the old masik/adhesive residue before we install the new flooring?
It is best to remove all reside. The important thing is that the floor is even and smooth so your tiles will be flush together. the hardest part is getting rid of the old floor. It is pretty smooth sailing putting the ceramic down. Really enjoyed doing mine. Just love it. Would never go back to vinyl.
Good Luck

I did the same thing that you are doing and found that as long as the floor is clean, meaning no grease or other contaminents are there that would affect the thin set from sticking to the floor, then its okay. It also needs to be as level as possible, if you have high spots that the thin set can't make up for, your tile will be uneven.

You want to have as level a surface as possible for the new tile to prevent buckling and chipping in the future, so yes, I'd advise it. I know it's more work, but if you're going to put down the new tile, you want it to look good and last. Believe me, it's no fun to redo ceramic tile!

As spotless as possible. The less grit the more success you will have.

Can you but something to change the color grout that is in between ceramic tile flooring?
Feb 27, 2007 by kllryan | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling
The people that owned the house before me layed ceramic tile flooring but did not seal it, so the grout is all discolored. I actually would like it to be a different color, do they sell something that i can apply to make it a darker brown color?
Check your local hardware store, but I do believe you actually get a sealant that will tint it a darker shade. thats a 2-fer.

How to installing laminate over ceramic tile flooring?
Sep 14, 2008 by freckledpeanut82 | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling
I want to install 450 sq ft of laminate over existing tile floor. What should I consider to get the best result? Thickness of laminate? Underlayment? Prep work?
We have installed laminate over our ceramic tile with no problems! Just consider that this will raise the floor height so you will need to remove and reposition all base mouldings or they will look shorter. You will also need the proper transition pieces if the floor will be touching a different type of flooring in an adjoining room since the laminate will be slightly higher and not level because of the tile underneath.
Make sure you use a good vapor barrier and put area rugs in wet areas, such as in front of the sink, and you shouldn't have any problems
