Finding Cermaic Floor Tile patterns?
Jun 30, 2007 by ROGER O 44 | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
We purchased a 12 year old house and some of the ceramic floor tiles are cracked and need to be replaced. Where can you find old ceramic tile patterns? Do I have to replace the entire area?
FINDING OLD TILES ARE LIKE FINDING OLD CAR PARTS slim and none, but don.t dis pair remove one of the old broken or not and take it to local tile only store home depot probably will be of little help as they know their currant supply and only supplier.if all else fails find a complementary style and size and create a new pattern removing the broken and possibly a few not so broken create a new design or bite the bullet.careful in the removal of tiles near tile you want to keep remove grout surrounding the tile you want to remove before you break it out the grout will transfer the impact of a hammer to surrounding tiles breaking more than you want

If you can get one tile to carry as your sample, then check stores that sell tiles. Doubt you will find them. Best bet is take sample to store that specializes in tile; they MAY have outdated tiles in their warehouse.
Dig out some from area that could use contrast colors. Use pulled up ones (extra work to 'clean' back of old tiles) and replace the cracked/broken tiles. Use contrasting tiles around visible outside wall border or center of area.
Now have 2 different colors but not replacing entire floor.

A inexpensive way to change ceramic tile...?
Feb 16, 2008 by Drew_1996 | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling
I have some patterned ceramic tile on the backsplash in my kitchen (20 tiles to be exact), and the rest of my backsplash is a plain colored tile. Like the plain colored tile, but would like to change to patterned tiles. Is there anything that I can use to inexpensively and easily change the tiles. I don't want it to look cheesy or cheap. I would prefer no to paint the tiles, with the pattern, I don't think it will look right.
Tear out the old.....in with the new. Hopefully you can match the tile you want to keep. Take your time and have fun.

I want to lay ceramic tile in a brickwork pattern. Do I start in the center of the room? If not, where?
Jan 28, 2009 by Cathy J | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling
This is my first tile job. I am using 6 x 6 tiles in a spare bedroom. I really like the brickwork pattern as opposed to the standard straight pattern. Any suggestions?
Start by measuring to the center to what size cuts you ll have of course, but you can t do much since you ll have 2 different size cuts on the left to right pcs. get a full or good size pc for looks front and back or lay out to a full pc at the doorway. I would lay this pattern out so as you walk into the room you ll see the pattern right away and not have the long grout line look from the door. This is a good pattern for a 1 st timer , since you can "cheat" a little and don t have to be perfect, since when you grout it , it ll look real nice, even if your a hair off. Still look down your "offset" lines to see that your running as straigh as possible. Any installation questions or prepping the floor questions you can e mail me thru my avatar and check my qualifications there GL

Where can I find a shiny glossy ceramic tile which looks exactly like marble?
Oct 24, 2007 by ndc550 | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling
I went to a restaurant and see this beautiful tile floor. First I thought the tile was marble but then we figured that all the pattern on each tile is look exactly the same and then when we confirm with the owner he said it is the ceramic (porcelain) tile. Of course he didn't tell me where he got it :-(.
This is different with all of the other regular ceramic tile. It has the sharp edge like the marble tile and also has the marbleized glossy look to it. The edge of the regular ceramic tile is smooth or curl.
Expo Design carries porceline tiles that look like trav, carerra and other marbles. They are really becoming popular because they do not require the care that genuine marble does.

What trowel size to use when installing ceramic wall tile?
Sep 13, 2008 by Spun sugar | Posted in Do It Yourself (DIY)
The ceramic tiles are being installed in the shower and we are using mastic (Omni Grip) as the adhesive. It is being installed on to cement board. Our tile size is 13 x 8 inches. We are installing the tile in a brick pattern, if that makes any difference. What size trowel should we use? Any other tips you can offer would also be welcome
Thanks for your responses. Just to confirm...would that be a v-notch trowel or a square notch?
use a 1/8" or a 3/16" notched trowel 1/4" would be too deep and you'll have a tough time getting them to stay put. use the spacers you can find because it will make your job look professional, remember to start at the bottom and work up. When you grout the job make sure not to grout the corners of the shower as those should be caulked w/silicone to make it water tight, and remember to use water seal after you are done and before you start to use the shower. hope this helps and good luck with it.

Put pentagons, or anything else on the floor and, well, you might as well try to tile your floor in circles. They're not going to fit together. You'll have gaps. You need an orderly pattern to fit all those gaps. But you'd get your skepticism thrown in
