Do you caulk betwen a ceramic tile floor and the wall trim?
Jan 31, 2006 by flipper | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling
This is a professionally installed ceramic tile floor in a bathroom and the contractor said not to caulk gap where tile and floor meet. Is this correct?
There is about an 1/8" gap between floor tile and wall trim and there is no caulk or grout, just the space. Is this the way it should be?
I wouldnt. When you caulk along tile floors, the caulk gets into the grout right along the edge of the baseboard. I dont care if you use wet rags to clean up the left over caulk or buckets of water, it ends up looking awful. If you try to use a color match caulk it gets on the baseboard and looks equally awful.
If you have a gap between the tile and the base get some shoe moulding, pre paint it, and install that over the tile. The prepainting keeps you from having paint along the tile all you have to do then is fill the nail holes, caulk the inside corners of the shoe and the top of the shoe to the base moulding, and touch up paint these areas when the caulk is dry.

I just had several rooms done in tile. The professionals did NOT put the caulking anywhere but between the tiles.

YES.use caulk the color of trim and have a small bucket of water and a wet rag.apply caulk then drag a wet finger down it then use wet rag to gentlytake off excess caulk and give final smooth finish. If gap is to larg run a bead on top and botton then wait an hour and finish filling in then use wet rag to give it the pro look.next day use expensive angled trim brush to paint using tip of brush.Never ever use a cheap brush on trim

Banannanose has confused caulk with grout. Do not use grout but caluking is fine.

Does ceramic tile in the tub/shower have to have bullnose or edging?
Dec 30, 2007 by creolegirl31 | Posted in Do It Yourself (DIY)
Can I just lay the tile and not put edging on? Or do most people put on some type of edging? I'm having a hard time finding bullnose or trim to match my wall tile.
You can leave a factory egde or you can leave a V shape where the tile comes together and round it with grout to save tons of money on bullnose tile. Bullnose is still the favorite option but not the only.

Trim looks like crap after tile work!?
Sep 25, 2007 by tmae | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling
We recently had new ceramic tile put down. I am not pleased with it at all. Especially now that I saw my mom's tile that looks a LOT better than mine! The installers never pulled the base trim out and there is grout all up against the trim! It looks crappy! I have areas that have too much grout smudged up against the trim and areas that have gaps! The company is bonded, so they say they will come out this Friday to look at it. Can I make them do all the tile over around the trim? I'm not sure how much power I have with this. I'm just so disgusted in the work they did.
just tell them your concerns ask them to remove the grout from the trim and to regrout the gaps be firm but nice you get more with honey than viniger also be positive tell them it looks good except...... they must feel that they can possibly make you happy remember the "bonded" company you hired did not do the work ssome poor SOB that simply works hourly for them did it don't be mad at him for his lack of skill be mad at the "bonded" co that hired him ...also he may be skilled but the company had overloaded him to where he was in too much of a hurry good luck fromTEXAS

Where can I find inexpensive ceramic tile?
Mar 04, 2008 by Matthew W | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling
I am tiling my bathroom around the tub area. I have the square pieces in place, I am looking at buying some decorative trim pieces, but they all seem high priced. Any thoughts are appreciated, thanks.
The prices are going to vary based on color, quality, special things about it (like little metal flakes that make it sparkle). So if you're looking to keep the price down, you're going to need to look for simple colors, nothing fancy. I would recommend checking out Lowe's or Home Depot. Outlet stores are good for cheap cheap materials. But what you'll most often find is that the quantities aren't enough for what you need, or the quality is very inconsistant.
There are reasons why things end up in outlet stores.. Alot of times its because of a flaw that doesn't make it NOT sellable, but it makes it not good enough to sell in a larger retailer that only wants good stuff.
I would shoot over to the nearest big chain hardware store and check out things there. You may even have a True Value, or Value Home Center near you as well. They're also great places to get good prices on tile.

I have pink ceramic tiles with black trim in the bathroom area, what accent colors should I use?
Jul 01, 2008 by bev_549 | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling
OK...replacing the tiles is out, so I keep hearing "Go Retro!" Not exactly sure where to start. For instance...what accent colors? Grey, burgundy & black? Untiled walls are white with a grey marble-looking floor, white pedestal sink & new white toilet on the way. I love the deep cherry wood or mahoghany for mirror frame and I'm building a small 2 door cabinet for incidentals using one of these staines, but I'm not sure if this will be too dark for a tiny bathroom. In desperate need of some decorating advice.
