Who do i call to check out water leakage from my kitchen ceramic tile floors?
Aug 14, 2007 by advice needed.... | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
I just noticed that on the floor near our sink/dishwater, water is coming up from the ceramic tile floor. when i wipe it and clean it up, water comes up. Who do i call to fix it? a plumber for the leak, but who do i call for the floors to make sure there is no mold.
The plummer would be a good place to start, go from there and see what kind of damage has been done.

How do I repair the grout on my kitchen ceramic tile floor?
Aug 22, 2008 by Mema | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
When we moved in this house, my husband put down terra cotta colored tile with dark brown grout. He never did it before and must have made a mistake. Plus he never got around to sealing it. Now in some areas the grout has turned a much lighter color. Does anyone know what we can do to return those areas to a dark brown. Thanks!
Yes I know, its very easy. Purchase a tool called a grout saw in Lowe's, Home Depot or your local Tile Distributor. Its not really a saw but rather an tool with a handle and a ruff surface at the end. Some grout saws have two different blades at the end, you can keep them together and then reverse the blades after several applications. Go back and forth slowly between the tiles to remove the old or damage grout. Go down as much as you can but you do not need to remove all the grout, just most of it. Use a vacuum cleaner to remove excess loose grout. Mix the new grout and apply onto your tiled floor. Clean up good removing grout stains from the tiles itself. Let dry for 24 hours, do not walk on floor. Purchase the smallest amount of a good sealer (spend the money, its much better that the cheaper one) and apply the way the bottle tells you to. Let dry another 24 hours. Problem solved. You can go onto my wet site for detail info.

What color paint would compliment light yellow kitchen ceramic tile counter tops?
Aug 24, 2007 by Melly | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling
I'm thinking a dark plum color. I should also add that I have dark oak cabinets and 2 large windows. I also have dark oak paneling that I'm debating on removing or painting a cream color. HELP! :)
I would go with a light sage/celedon color. Or a seafoam. A really really light green basically.

What can I use to clean my kitchen ceramic tile floor?
Dec 09, 2008 by jonlp68 | Posted in Cleaning & Laundry
A mop just pushes dirt around so they never get clean. I was thinking of getting a Hoover spin-scrub machine? Are these good? Any other ideas?
I use the Hoover Spin scrub. It works very well. My floors have alot of traffic...kids, dogs...I have to clean it about every other day. The machine is less work, (since I have lung disease), and gets it very clean. The only problem with it is, it won't reach the area under the overhang of the cabinets. This has to be done by hand...These machines are fairly expensive, but I think they're worth it, and the floor dries much quicker.

didn't work well
I bought these primarily to drill three holes through the grout between tiles to hang a bathroom shelf. The bit self-destructed -- the point disappeared, it split and the two pieces of the split bent. That was the 3/16 bit, I think. Then I used a larger bit to drill through the bottom of a ceramic bowl. It took almost a half hour. In both instances I tried to lubricate with water. I am not happy with the set.

Great for tile, not so great for glass
I needed a good set of drill bits for our new ceramic and glass tile bathroom. The bits were excellent for the ceramic tile. Started easily with no wandering. Clean holes. The glass tiles were another story. We used 1" mosaic tiles for the shower area, but I needed to drill holes for the handheld shower set. I practiced on extra tiles beforehand and found that the drills would get through the glass, but the spade style bit would catch and crack the tile 3 out of 4 times. I finally bought a diamond core bit and that worked well.
The set has a nice collection of sizes (1/16, 3/16, 1/4, 5/16, 3/8, 1/2, 5/8, and 3/4 inch) packed in a nice compact heavy duty case. The sizes are useful for various projects around the house.
I used the 3/16 inch bit to drill holes in my ceramic tile shower wall to hang a towel bar. Put some masking tape on the wall, marked the holes and just drilled without no problems. The bit cut a smooth hole with just a little pressure and very little walking on the surface. 4 holes, all done right the first time in the right place.
They work well -- at least on ceramic tile. I have not tried them on glass and don't currently have any plans to do so (don't need any holes in my windows :-)). Definitely recommend them if you plan to do some drilling in the bathroom.
Sizes of Bits
Unfortunately Amazon does not tell you the bit sizes in this set. I just purchased one (Jan. 2010) which has the following eight bits: 1/8, 3/16, 1/4, 5/16, 3/8, 1/2, 5/8 And 3/4 Inch.
Worked well on porcelain pottery
Shortly after getting this kit, I used the 3/4" bit to drill a hole in the bottom of a porcelain pot that we had been using as a flower pot. The bit started very easily, and cut through quite nicely. Very satisfied with the performance.

Great service, great cleaner.
Shipping was super fast. And this products works great for laminate wood floors. We have really stubborn wax buildup on the laminte in the house we just moved into. With a microfiber cloth attached to a swiffer and using this stuff we were able to get the floor cleaner then with all of the other stuff we have tried.
