how to remove tile cement after you remove floor tiles?
Jun 27, 2008 by Gita D | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling
i have just removed a set of floor tiles that were cracked, but the tile cement under the tile is not easy to remove. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to do this. i need to remove the cement so that i can cement in the new tiles. if i leave the old cement in the new tiles will be un-even.
The link shows what I use in concrete repair. It fits my 4 1/2" grinder and is very effective. However if it's a smaller area cheaper wheels are available. Then there's the hammer and chisel. They have masonry chisels in different widths.Just be patient and use care.
Good Luck

you need to get as much off as you can. If the old tiles were put down on plywwod base you can rip that up and put new base down. If they were cemented to the floorboards it will be a case of using a good thick chisle and hammer and getting it up painfully slowly.
If you don't then you will never get a flat floor.

use a side bolster jack hammer to knock off the cement if its on a solid floor.
if it was laid over wood or on plywood then it can be just lifted off from one corner and broken up as you remove it.
if its solid floor best to get a professional in otherwise you'll end up with a floor full of holes that will need levelling before you re-do tiles.
other option is to level the floor over the tile cement then start again but slightly higher!

How to get grout and tile cement off of ceramic tile?
Aug 26, 2007 by mineemowse | Posted in Do It Yourself (DIY)
My husband and I tried to save $$ - and ceramic tiled the shower ourselves. It took forever....and ever. It's been done a while now (not looking too professional, but good for us), but what's bothering me is that when we wiped off the tile either during the grouting or initial cementing process, we didn't do a good job. I clean and clean the tiles with scrubbing bubbles, etc, but it never wears away.
Is there something we can clean the tiles with that won't injure the ceramic (I'm never tiling again!) but will take off the residue?
Thanks!
I just did it. You can use a plastic scraper, wet dry sand paper or purchase a chemical from your local Home Depot or Loews .

I've discovered roof tile cement muck in header tank. Can this cause strange taste in tap water?
Apr 29, 2007 by CannyChap | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
Does the header tank provide water to the drinking taps or is the header tank just for in our case, the power shower supply. Either way, there is roof tile cement pieces and sediment of dissolved roof tile cement lying in the bottom of the header tank. Can this harm the power shower motor valve if not removed and is it best to remove it. The bigger pieces i can pick out , how do I remove the sediment in the bottom of the header tank. Can you buy additional lids to safegaurd the water in the tank from future contamination. Any help much appreciated. Thanks
Your drinking water should be fed directly from the incoming main, and not from the tanks.
As for cleaning the tanks you could turn off the main supply and then drain enough from you hot taps to empty the tank. Then clean it out thoroughly, and as you suspected it should have a cover which you can buy from a Builders Merchant.
You are also right to be concerned about your power shower so take whatever measures you can to prevent sludge going down the pipe while you do the cleaning - this could just mean putting a temporary cork in the pipe.
An alternative way to clean the base of the tank might be to set up a siphon with a length of hose pipe running outside. You can use this to "vacuum" the bottom of the tank while it is still full.

How can I create a cement tile?
Mar 21, 2007 by holy_waah | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling
I would like to create a backsplash in my kitchen from cement. I thought it woule be more affordable than purchasing tiles from the local hardware store. I would like the cement to be heat resistent (atleast somewhat due to the tile being close to the stove). I would also like to stain the tile and place grout between the pieces (approx. 2x2 or so) If you know the best way to go about doing this or know of a good link please let me know. Thank you.
It is very hard to make thin concrete items. they tend to crack. Check with ur tile stores in ur area. We can get 12x12 tiles here in oklahoma for around .89 cents apiece. that is very economical.

How do you clean a cement tile floor?
Feb 28, 2009 by zepfan1983 | Posted in Cleaning & Laundry
I have cement tile flooring in every room of my house. By far it is the toughest surface I have ever tried to clean! Just mopping doesn't work, I would have to get on my hands and knees and scrub the entire house! Is there an easier way to clean this floor? Thanks.
Sweeping is a very big NO. Mopping is the best. And don't be
afraid to go over it several times. And each time you wash out the mop,
dump the water, wash out the mop again and then mop the floor again. I
known this takes lots of water, but it is worth it

Mysterious holes in flooring

But I don't think any caulking is mold proof. Instead, fill the gap with an unsanded grout. It is a little like cement, and will fill that gap nicely and smoothly. After it sets, seal it with a tile or masonry sealer. 2) What man or boy has never
