Can I install a wood floor over ceramic tile?
Apr 23, 2008 by Topsy | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling
I have a kitchen floor with 12" ceramic tiles. I would like to install a wood floor over the ceramic tile. I want to avoid the mess (and expense) of ripping out all the ceramic tile. If this can be done, please suggest possible companies or reference materials that I can research. Thank you.
at home depo they have fake wood [it looks real i sware]. you can call someone there and they can put it on for you. all they have to do is put a sticky paste on it. it will be done within three days. i had tiles on my floor and now it looks great with the "wood."

yes but it will make any base molding look shorter, place a moisture barrier between the wood floor and the tile. Ikea has cheap wood flooring you can install yourself but its not the best quality

Not if you have to nail the wood down.

I want to put laminate wood floor in my living room with a ceramic tile square in the middle. Need pics/ideas.

I want to put laminate wood in my living room and ceramic tile in my kitchen...I also want to coordinate the tile that is in the kitchen into the living room...I recently saw an add showing a living room with this done. (laminate wood w/ a ceramic tile square/looks like a rug.) I need pictures or ideas of colors, texture, style...I cannot seem to find any more pictures of this.
Call your local home center, like Lowe's or Home Depot and ask to speak to the person that does Kitchen and things. Make an appointment with that person and when you go in, have pictures of your kitchen and tell them what you want. They have computer now that can help you. They will also tell you which flooring would be the best. Of course they will try and talk you into getting them to do all the work, but you can just say something like you didn't realize the cost and will have to think about it, before making the final decision. Good Luck

Can I install ceramic tile over engineered wood and how?
Oct 31, 2006 by Bill W | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling
I had a water leak in my bath whci had engineered wood installed. I want to now apply ceramic tile over the engineered wood if possible? The wood is glued to the concrete floor.
It is not a good ideat to install ceramic over an engineered floor. Wood is not stable enough for ceramic, as minor movement will cause the ceramic to crack. The wood must be removed, and if the floor underneath is concrete you will be fine. If it is a wood subfloor, a concrete impregnated plywood must be installed first. (Such as Hardi-backer or Wonderboard)
I am in the business, and if a customer insisted on installing ceramic on top of an engineered floor, as much as I like selling this stuff, I would turn the job down.

Plywood (or OSB grid side up). Thickness depends on how uneven floors are, but 11 or 12 mm would sound about right.
(seems a bit of a travesty but it's your house).
