I am looking into setting up a spray booth for finishing wood furniture. This needs to be done totally inside as I will have no access outside to spray etc The area i have in mind to spray in is only 10 x 10ft.
I need to make sure that the area I spray in that the chemicals are exhausted to the outside of the building (safely) and that the area that I spray in is safe to my health because I will be using materials such as i.e. lacquer, mineral spirits, methylene chloride etc.
I already understand that I will need an exhaust/extracter fan but would really appreciate any advice on makes/models and what I need to do? Also I want to make sure that there is no fire hazards etc And how strong the fan needs to be for such an area.
Thank you for reading this and looking forward to hearing from your suggestions soon
Is this room to be in your home, or a zoned industrial/commercial space? If in a residential area, venting the fumes outside could cause complaints and a lot of grief for you. My husband once vented fumes from a small paint spray booth into a water system he had set up and it worked great. Google it

Gnats and fresh spray paint....?
Aug 30, 2007 by callmeshane303 | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
I like to spray paint things around the house...
I don't have a spray booth - with an exhaust fan etc.., so I just do little odds and endes here and there.
I have noticed that GNATS are attracted to seweragey / fermenting puddles and I figure that it must be due to the methane and other hydrocarbons being produced / exuded.
The issue I have with them is that they are attracted to landing in / on freshly painted surfaces - and sticking "in" the paint.
So I figure that perhaps the only way to stop them is to periodically waft a cloud of bug spray down wind with the breeze...
I could use an organic pyrethrum based spray...
Aside from that, I am not sure what I can do to stop the gnats attraction to my fresh and immaculate paint jobs.
Does anyone have any other ideas on how to stop them?
Although I have never heard of gnats being attracted to fresh paint, here's a pointer:
Set out little cups of vinegar or wine, and put plastic wrap over them. Poke little holes in the plastic so they can get in, but not come out. Make sure that you check every little crevice in your place that could provide enough moisture for the gnats to lay their eggs in, and eliminate it. Keep in mind that it may take a little bit to get rid of most of them, but be patient. I suggest you stop painting for a while until you get most of them out.
After you paint, set up lots of fans and have them blow directly on the paint to help it dry faster. I'd keep spraying the bug spray, too.
I hope that helps. Good luck!
