How do I upgrade my 3 handle bath faucet?
Sep 16, 2007 by Sunsetkitten2783 | Posted in Do It Yourself (DIY)
I want to upgrade the 3 handle shower handles to a 1 handle or 2 handle but I can't seem to find any instructions online. Any ideas?
You will have to expose your plumbing that's in the wall. You have to remove the the existing faucet w/diverter valve and re plumb for the single handle valve. You will also have to replace your tub enclosure because of the different holes. My best advice is to hire a contractor.

Snap a picture of the faucet, and print it out. Then take a trip down to Home Depot or Rona, and one of the sales assistants will be able to help you install a new one.

I just upgraded a kitchen faucet from a 4 to a 3 hole. They had a plate to put underneath to block the hole. Then I placed the new ones wherever I wanted. The new plate was brushed nickel and matched all my handles and fixtures, so it looked really nice.

Unless you have some experience with plumbing, soldering and refinishing walls I would not recommend tackling this on your own. You will need to remove part of the inside wall (if you have tub surround it is even harder) redo the plumbing for the new diverter and than refinish the wall. Hope you have a plumber in the family :)
Good Luck!

Shower/tub remodel: Where can I find 3 new chrome lever handles?
Jun 28, 2008 by su | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
I am remodeling the bathroom on a budget, and have got a new lever handle style faucet for the sink. Where can I find just 3 inexpensive chrome handles to match (fairly closely) for the 3 handle tub/shower? They would simply scew into where the old (1970s) "cross" style handle are. I am in an isolated area and will need to mail order. Thanks!
I just type you a nice letter and corrected spelling and lost the whole thing. So I will just give you the website.

It is in accessories Good luck.

Plumber???Question about installing a one handle shower?
Oct 04, 2008 by fiona t | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling
We are renovating our bathroom and are trying to cut down on cost (plumber) and learn how to do it ourselves. Does anyone know how to change the shower faucets from the 3 handle set at the bottom of the wall to a one handle set farther up, I just need a little instruction on what materials I would need to move the pipes and set it up??
Buy pex tubing and sharkbite fittings at a hardware or home improvement store. They press on and are safe to be placed in interior walls. It's a very easy as the pex tubing can bend and flex better than copper pipes. The fittings are more expensive than copper sweat fittings but well worth it.

I have low water flow in my new tub/shower faucet, but WHY?
Sep 21, 2007 by ArLorax | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
I am replacing a 3 handle faucet with a new 1 handle model with a temperature control. When I flush the valve body, I timed the water and I get 3.75 gallons per minute. As soon as I put the cartridge in, the flow reduces to 2.25 gallons per minute. I have tried two different faucet models and two different brands. Yes, the lines are both fully pressurized (on) and yes the cartridge and parts are in right side up. I cannot figure out why I am losing 1.5 gallons per minute in the flow and Kohler help desk isn't open again until Monday. PLEAAASE HELP!
I adjusted the flow restrictor to max 6 gpm. The range is 4.5 to 6 gpm. There doesn't seem to be any improvement in the flow rate. Any more ideas out there? Please help if you can!
There are built in flow restrictors in all newer model fixtures to reduce the flow. Some are in the body itself and some are in the shower head. They have become really clever on hiding them. If you look on the outlet side of the valve body you should see only a small hole where as the inlet has a full 1/2" flow. You can drill out the small holes and get more volume.

Hot water not hot enough in my Condo. Recently installed new washer-dryer, new faucets.?
Mar 08, 2007 by AK | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
I renovated a condo and installed new washer-dryer (including plumbing for W/D like shut off valves and drainage). We also replaced faucets in kitchen and bath. Both of these faucets are single handle faucets. After we installed all these, water temperature dropped in the condo ... in bath, shower, kitchen as well as W/D. I read on verious websites that mixing valves in single handle faucets can cause water temperature to drop. Questions is: 1) How do I find out which faucet (or W/D) is causing the problem. 2) How do I know it is not something else, like a faulty W/D installation 3) How do fix it when I find out what it is.
Please note that water heater is a common heater for the building and 26 other condos are ok so water heater is definitely not a problem. Also not that we did not change anything in the shower and it has separate faucets for hot and cold but its temperature also dropped.
Thank you.
If you've incorrectly installed a mixing valve, it's possible that your cold water is constantly leaking into the hot, or vice versa. This is a surprisingly common error many amateur plumbers make. Changing the valves should have no effect on the temperature of either the hot or the cold water. Try flushing the toilet and then place your hand inside the storage tank. If the incoming water is warm, the mixing valve is allowing the two systems to mingle.
Another tip: Don't rely on your subjective judgement about relative temperatures. Use a digital thermometer. Then you can compare real temperatures rather than subjective impressions.
Most of the single handle valves I've installed mix a little cold with the hot, even when the handle is fully to the hot side. You can't get them to dispense only hot water. If the building's hot water is already somewhat cool (commonly done to avoid lawsuits and minimize costs) then even a little bit of cold water will make the "hot" seem too cool. Is there a hot water outlet which still has a simple faucet? What is its temperature?
I've rambled a bit, so allow me to summarize: I see two possible causes for your symptoms. It might be that one or more of the new mixing valves is bleeding cold water into the hot side. Use a thermometer on the pipes near the valves to check for this condition (with the mixing valve off and a distant hot faucet on). It is also possible that you do not realize that it is normal for most mixing valves to deliver slightly cooler "hot" water because the cold valve is intentionally designed to never close completely.
