Hard question: How do I fix the bathtub faucet knob that directs water to the shower head?
Mar 25, 2006 by Seoul Man | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
I somehow pulled off the knob (on the top of the faucet) and its attached rod that direct water from the bathtub faucet to the showerhead. Then a rectangular plastic piece with a rubber washer fell out of the actual bathtub faucet. It's the piece that I presume blocks the water flow so that it comes out of the showerhead.
I can't figure out how to fix this. Anybody have any ideas?
If it is not too tight try and unscrew the water spout portion by turning counter clock wise . you may need a strap or pipe wrench. it will unscrew then take damaged piece to a local plumbing shop or hardware store . use Teflon or pipe dope to replace do not over tighten. you are done.
food for thought have a plumber lined up just in case the pipe twists off and a whole new faucet need to be put in. But if it is that corroded you will need to do that any way. so try and you may save a bundle of cash.

You have to replace the faucet.
To remove the faucet, unscrew it. This will be easier if you have a pipe wrench or strap wrench.
Take it to a home improvement store and buy a replacement. Be sure to get some Teflon tape to put on the threads before you screw on the replacement.
This is an easy repair. Anyone can do it. It will only cost you $5 to $10.

Everyones right on replacing the divertor spout, but before you crank on it, look underneath toward the wall to make sure there isn't a set screw. If there is, loosen it and simply pull off the spout. If there isn't, do what the guy above told you. Trying to unscrew a slide-on spout will break the pipe. I know, I've done this before.

When you brush your teeth, how do you rinse? Cup or Direct Faucet?
Apr 18, 2008 by bomen168 | Posted in Dental
This has been bothering me for a while and I always seem to think this is an Asian thing...
Okay, so whenever I brush my teeth, I always fill this big plastic cup with water. And when I finish brushing, I rinse and refill the cup and rinse again till the taste of toothpaste is gone from my mouth.
I noticed that a lot of people do this: They brush their teeth then either make a cup with their hands or try to suck the water out of the sink faucet.
So is it weird for me to use a cup with brushing? Or do some people do that too? haha this has been really bothering me. It's weird because the rest of my family does this too and apparently it's not weird in our family haha
Haha, that's a good question. I am a dental hygienist, and that'd be funny to ask the patients at random!
If my hands are clean, I use my hand as a cup to scoop the water in. If they aren't clean, like after I pet the dog with my non-dominant hand while I brushed with my dominant hand, then I get down under the faucet and catch the water. No, I don't touch my mouth to the faucet like some people do- gross!
I prefer a cup, but then that's one more thing I have sitting around on the counter...so the hand works best.
PLUS, I use a tongue scraper to sweep away the excess toothpaste film! Totally beats swishing!

How do I fix this water faucet?
Nov 11, 2007 by Jackal | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
I have a new faucet in our house and the thing where you push up and down and left and right to direct the water is loose. (See the picture in the link below, ours is like this one). When I push it up the lever comes back down. Any ideas?

If you look just under the handle you will see a part with vertical lines on it that are all the way around it. wrap this with a rag and tighten it with a pair of channel lock pliers. The rag will keep the pliers from gauling up the finish on the faucet.
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO REMOVE THE FAUCET, as some others have suggested.
