Shower faucet replacement?
Dec 28, 2007 by jcobb20 | Posted in Do It Yourself (DIY)
I am in the planning stages of a shower faucet and spout replacement project. I currently have a three-handle set-up with a fiberglass shower surround. I want to install a single lever faucet which will need to be about 1 ft above the spout. I want to complete this installation and be able to re-use the fiberglass surround. Is this possible or will I need to replace this complete section of the surround? Does anyone have experience with this type of remodel?
Save yourself a lot of hassle and use a 3 handle set
You will need to access the area behind the shower by cutting a hole in the wall to access the plumbing to replace the valves
this is not an easy job and requires basic plumbing ability, as well as drywall refinishing to repair the hole you make
I would look for a kit that will replace your handles on your existing valves and replace the shower head, cheaper and easier

the problem is that there will be holes from the previous 3-spout set up where the lines came in separately....they sell caps that can cover the holes, but sometimes those leak and will cause mold/mildew damage and rotting behind the shower wall. your best bet is to either put a new fiberglass surround, or else just use another 3-spout set up. sorry if this is disappointing! but it will save a LOT of money and time in the end.

either use the three hole faucet, or you will have to replace the surround. I have done several remodels, and know that there is no other way around this. The plus side is that if you replace the surround you will not have to cut an access hole in the wall behind the shower to do the work.

Most manufacturers make remodel plates to cover the holes with your new faucet. Go to their websites or call.

Does a replacement faucet have to exactly fit the hole that is already in the counter top?
Oct 22, 2006 by peterpan | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
I plan to replace my kitchen faucet which required only a single hole in the counter top. I will replace it with one that also requires a single hole because I don't want todo any more drilling. My question is - must I buy a replacement faucet that requires the exact same size hole?
Faucets have an escucheon, so you shouldn't have to worry about it. The only part that goes through the sink is the bolts and the water lines.

How do I make sure I buy the correct faucet replacement for a kitchen sink.?
Nov 28, 2008 by NANCY P | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
I don't want to replace the whole sink. I want to replace the ugly faucet.
Take note as to how many holes are on top of your sink so you'll know what styles will work. Think about how far you want the faucet to extend over the sink. Measure that distance from the hole. That ought to help. Faucets that have a sprayer hose that pulls out from the main faucet are very handy for cleaning the sink.

Frequent cartridge replacement on Moen faucet?
Jan 21, 2008 by Finally Spring | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
Since the installation of my bathtub faucet, I have needed to replace the cartridge every year. I thought those things were guaranteed for life? It's not a difficult thing, but it is a pain in the butt and they cost $20. Does anybody else have this difficulty?
The cartridge is what some faucets have in place of washers.
No hard water.
Um, it's dripping, why else would I replace the cartridge?
sounds like you have debris in your pipes. are your pipes galvanized. if they are not I wouls tuen off the water at the house main. then goto the meter and see if the meter is running. that will tell you if your main is broken. also Moen sucks. We stopped selling moen because of theyre warrant and it not lasting

Commentary: A warning or a challenge? That all depends on your point of view
San Jose Mercury News - Jan 23, 2012
I'd leave that to my new buddy Mike at Campbell's Cool Kat Appliance Repair. I would never try to run wiring to install a ceiling fan or some such thing. I'd call an electrician. And I would never try to fix a leaky bathtub faucet, especially when the
