How do I remove a ball type faucet (bathroom)?
Nov 28, 2008 by Fred Head | Posted in Do It Yourself (DIY)
I want to replace my ball type faucet with a more modern faucet. The sink looks like a porcelain bird bath. When I look behind the sink the copper tubes go up and in through 2 small holes in the sink. I don't know how they got up there.
On the faucet itself I removed the ball handle and the washers and everything. All I am still left with everything except the ball handle.
Does anyone know how I can take this completely off without tearing the sink from the wall?
The faucet is held in place with a couple of nuts on the bottom side.
Typical construction is that the nut holds tight against the sink, and then the water supply lines connect to the faucet.
If this particular sink is made in such a way that you cannot see them from the underside, you may have to disconnect the supply lines at the shut off valves, and then lift the entire sink off the pedestal. The faucet nuts should then be accessible from the back side of the sink.

DIY changing taps (faucets) and tap handles? Is it possible to do it yourself?
Aug 19, 2008 by lolly | Posted in Do It Yourself (DIY)
My Dad is a plumber, but he lives 5 hours away so he isn't much help!
I want to change the taps and tap handles in my kitchen and in my bathroom to nicer more modern ones. Is it possible to this myself with my boyfriends help, or would it be wise for us to get a plumber to do it.
I am happy to attempt it, as long as it is not a hugely high level of difficulty. Our place is only about 10 years old if that makes any difference to the type of plumbing and taps we have.
Changing out the taps was one of my first DIY projects as a new homeowner. Yes, doable, but it would depend on a few things, such as if the replacement taps fit the same holes in the sink.
Just be sure to get good instructions from the place where you buy it, and back it up with a good book. Make sure you have the right tools, the most important one being a plumber's pliers/wrench.

Our house was built in 1951. We've remodeling bathroom. We left old counters, they 're unique. Very modern even now, long solid piece, no drawers, stands on no legs..Color is teal aqua like the odd color from the 50's. We added modern raspberry colored bathtub, fiberglass, bathroom all has sleek look Through out the old seafoam green carpet replaced with10x10 ceramic tile.Floor tile is subtle, peachy, light pink color, looks different depending what color its next to .Half way up all walls are original shiny solid color light beige tiles. We put matching raspberry trim along the edge of the beige tile All the faucets are silver;there are 2 old style WHITE sink basins in the green countertop:Opposite is extra long green counter must have been used as a dresser). Above that is a tripod large mirror covering the entire wall. We put silver art deco lights above sinks and medicine cabinent. Many oddly combined colors but blending well. NOW, is best color to paint walls, flat or semigloss?
