My kitchen faucet needs replacing but the faucet is mounted above the sink on the wall. Is there any way to ?

update this faucet to the more modern faucets on the sink or are there faucets that is readily replace the old one?
rerouting the actual plumbing pipe with pvc is the easy part..what may be hard is if you do not plan to replace the sink for usually this old of design of sink/faucet combo had a cast iron sink covered with porcelin..drilling through cast iron is a chore from hell without causing cracks or even major chunks of cast iron chipping off while doing so...This requires special tools and a lot of knowledge of working with cast iron..You more than likely will have to replace the sink so it has the hole/holes in it to accept a new faucet..

I can't be much help because we didn't follow through with changing ours, but I do know they are available. We were told they were quite expensive and had to be special ordered. Check with your local plumbing supply house or Lowes may carry them as a special order item.

Re: "my kitchen faucet needs replacing".
I've often rebuilt faucets instead of replacing them. I don't know why "real" plumbers don't do this more often - OK, I really do, it's not cost effective compared to replacement, when you factor in their labor rates and customer expectations.
Most faucets of any quality have replaceable seats (you'll need a seat tool - cheap), and virtually every other part that wears out is replaceable, too, so far as functioning. So far as beauty, well, you'll have to make that decision. I've found replacement faucet parts available for faucets from the early 1900's. My plumbing store might have had to order them (I can't remember now), but they were available. This might be your most money-saving option here, too.

How do I remove a ball type faucet (bathroom)?
Nov 28, 2008 by Fred Head | Posted in Do It Yourself (DIY)
I want to replace my ball type faucet with a more modern faucet. The sink looks like a porcelain bird bath. When I look behind the sink the copper tubes go up and in through 2 small holes in the sink. I don't know how they got up there.
On the faucet itself I removed the ball handle and the washers and everything. All I am still left with everything except the ball handle.
Does anyone know how I can take this completely off without tearing the sink from the wall?
The faucet is held in place with a couple of nuts on the bottom side.
Typical construction is that the nut holds tight against the sink, and then the water supply lines connect to the faucet.
If this particular sink is made in such a way that you cannot see them from the underside, you may have to disconnect the supply lines at the shut off valves, and then lift the entire sink off the pedestal. The faucet nuts should then be accessible from the back side of the sink.

Modern Day Farah Faucet look?
Aug 24, 2008 by Shelby E | Posted in Hair
I really think that the new modern day farah faucet look is so cute, but i'm not quite sure how to get the same look AND have it last throughout the day. kihttp://mypetjawa.mu.nu/archives/300px-Aishwarya_Rai.jpgnda like this maybe even more relaxed for a caual look for school.
Please keep in mind that I have a major pet peeve for hairspray because of how it makes my hair feel..
is there any way that I can get the same hold WITHOUT going to the extreme of using a whole can of hairspray?
Thank you!! =)
DIY changing taps (faucets) and tap handles? Is it possible to do it yourself?
Aug 19, 2008 by lolly | Posted in Do It Yourself (DIY)
My Dad is a plumber, but he lives 5 hours away so he isn't much help!
I want to change the taps and tap handles in my kitchen and in my bathroom to nicer more modern ones. Is it possible to this myself with my boyfriends help, or would it be wise for us to get a plumber to do it.
I am happy to attempt it, as long as it is not a hugely high level of difficulty. Our place is only about 10 years old if that makes any difference to the type of plumbing and taps we have.
Changing out the taps was one of my first DIY projects as a new homeowner. Yes, doable, but it would depend on a few things, such as if the replacement taps fit the same holes in the sink.
Just be sure to get good instructions from the place where you buy it, and back it up with a good book. Make sure you have the right tools, the most important one being a plumber's pliers/wrench.
