When I divert the water to shower, on the tub faucet spout, am I suppose to get no water coming out?
Jul 15, 2006 by CP | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
Whenever I turn on the tub faucet and divert it to the shower, I am getting enough pressure coming out from the faucet, but there's still some water coming out through the spout. It is not a lot, but it builds up enough pressure to push water back away from the drain. This is clearly not a clog problem. I tried, with my hands, to force the water not to hit the drain (by diverting the water toward the shower walls), and that clears up the water build-up. If I change a new faucet spout with diverter, am I suppose to get no water out when it is being diverted to the shower?
Is there suppose to be absolutely no water out when it is diverted to the shower?
I doubt the showerhead is being block. I have to pull the divert to a certain height and wiggle it just to get enough pressure to the showerhead. It can get high and low, but 1/2 the time it's high. So is there suppose to be any water coming through the faucet spout when the water is diverted to the shower?
If you can remove the shower head itself and then try your diverter. You should not have any water coming out of the spout when diverted.
To replace the tub spout, first check under the spout for a small access slot near the wall that indicates that the spout is held in place with an Allen screw. If so, use an Allen wrench to loosen the screw and slide the spout off the pipe. If there's no access slot, unscrew the spout itself. Insert a large screwdriver into the mouth of the spout and turn counterclockwise.

You need to replace the spout. You just unscrew it and screw on a new one

The little rubber flap of the diverter may be worn or distorted or the shower head may be partially blocked causing excessive back pressure. Before replacing the spout take a small container with enough CLR in it and hold it to the shower head and dissolve the possible blockage.

question on Faucet spout wiggling and rotating ?
Jan 01, 2009 by laurentmg | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
I just installed a brand new faucet and everything works perfectly. However the faucet spout can rotate around its center, stem. I made sure I tightened the ring underneath the sink but no matter how tight it is the spout can wiggle if I move it. Is there anything I could do or should I just leave it the way it is?

I am now able to better tight the ring underneath but still I cannot completely stop the wiggling.
Why does my Delta kitchen faucet spout leak between the end of the spout and the aerator?
Nov 23, 2007 by reliant | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
The aerator is as tight as can be and I'll even loosen it a bit, but it still leaks when the water is on. I've tried both metal and rubber or palstic type swivel aerators.
I lot of these faucets have a rubber gasket that fits inside the spout, on top of the aerator to prevent leaks. Yours may be missing. If your water is hard the minerals will plug the screen and cause a very slow flow as well, but if you have tried several types that probably is not the problem. I lean towards the gasket missing or possibly the gasket being deformed for some reason.

Leak at base of Delta kitchen faucet spout ring?
Nov 22, 2008 by windmillhercules | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
The leak is coming from the ring at the bottom of the spout. The ring can be moved up and down freely. However, I have a sponge with pressure on it holding the ring down to stop the leak. What can be done to fix this leak?
dismantle and clean ----- I'm thinking lime or debris.
Replace with new washers if you can find them.

The release/drain faucet spout for my boiler is dripping and the knob won't stop. It turns both ways!?
Mar 23, 2009 by sodowarts | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
The spout comes out the side of the boiler. I can turn the knob so it's just dripping, but if I try to tighten further (turning to the right) it loosens and just keeps turning and the water comes out again. The is a Peerless gas boiler that about 7 years old.
Sounds like the valve is shot. If you do not know how to replace the valve, then it is time to call a plumber. A small leak can turn into a big problem rather quickly.
