Big broad planks would be more traditional. To my eye, narrow and small planks look cheap and have an "off the rack" appearance.

I am a building contractor in my state, and my clients like the bigger planks, but not laminate. You can get great deals at lumberliquidators.com.

Bamboo Flooring! How good is it? Anyone installed this type of floor more than 2 years ago and happy ?
Apr 02, 2008 by Biliana | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling
I live in Sydney, northern suburbs. I'm trying to find the optimum solution for a bedroom floor to replace the sick carpets with an alternative healthy floor. My ideal is bright sand color flooring. Timber seems not that tough as bamboo, but bamboo products are imported from China and the quality may not be as good. If anyone has a bamboo floor for a few years now, I'd like to hear from you, and if you are happy with the quality, please let me know where to buy it from.
well we haven't had it for two years, but we have had it for a couple of months. we have the dark maroon color and it shows dust and cleaning streaks retty badly so i have to clean it every other day to. i wish i would have went with the lighter color now like you are talking about.
as for scratches, since ours is so dark, the deep ones do show but i go over them with a matching stain. i have never noticed lighter scratches. but since you are talking about getting the lighter colored flooring, the scratches wouldn't show up very easily.
we were very happy with the quality. it wasn't like hardwood flooring where you have to inspect each piece before you put it down, each one that came out of the box was in perfect condition. and the brand we bought was nice and thick.

where can i sell unused bamboo flooring at?
Jul 15, 2008 by alfred | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling
they are the easylock bamboo flooring for natural living # EL-H-NS. The place where i bought mines didn't want to buyback or refund the extra boxes. anyone know?
if it's not enough wood to do a room, then you might consider keeping the boxes in case you have a problem in the future. most people aren't going to buy a small quantity, like 20 feet or so. i don't know how many boxes/feet you have leftover. if it's a substantial amount, say 50 feet or more, you might try what the first answerer suggested, or sell to a friend or a yard sale. you could also consider donating to goodwill or a construction surplus store. i would still keep a box or two for yourself as an extra if you ever need to replace damaged sections in the future.

What are your thoughts on Bamboo flooring?
Jan 01, 2007 by atg28 | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling
I'm looking to install a type of flooring in my home, and I've been considering bamboo flooring because it's supposedly a fairly decent hardwood which looks good, relatively cheap, and a renewable type of wood unlike cherry or teak.
I was wondering if you DIY-ers would know the pros and especially cons of this relatively new flooring material.
I live in the Boston area in a 1980's built condo complex, so the interior is fairly maintained year-round.
Thanks!
Happy New Year!
I will say you have good taste.I installed a bambooo floor 3 years ago in a kitchen. Two weeks ago the home owner called and asked me to come by. I found the bambo splitting. I am going to install maple flooring next week. I have checked with other home owners I did a bamboo floors for and I am finding the same problem in some of them. The ones with a problem are in a kitchen. So for your kitchen I would suggest another type of wood.

Is there such a thing as Bamboo flooring?
Jan 22, 2007 by jeff c | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling
Bamboo can be made into counter tops.
Can the same type of thing be done as an alternative to traditional, hardwood flooring?
indeed there is, ask your local flooring supplier.
