How to remove pine resin from a laminate floor?
Dec 24, 2006 by robert R | Posted in Cleaning & Laundry
We have a laminate floor in our front room, not real wood, just looks like wood. We also have an open fireplace.
We are burning logs from some Leylandii trees we cut down 18 months ago. Despite standing for 18 months, some of the logs still have drops of resin clinging to the cut edges.
No matter how carefull we are, we sometimes get a drop of the resin on the floor, then it gets trodden on, then we get lots of sticky marks on the floor.
Does anyone have any suggestions for removing the sticky marks without damaging the laminate flooring ?
Is there any cleaning product or solvent that will disolve this sticky stuff ?
Spray a little WD-40 on the sticky spots then follow up with your normal floor care. WD works well for removing almost anything sticky and does no damage.

Depends on what the laminate is made of, but if it is wood veneer, you should be OK using white spirit on a cloth. If it isn't a wood veneer you should ask at the place you bought it from.

Go to an auto store and get a can of tar bug--spray it on a paper towel and get the goo up.

I'm not sure if this would work because I've only done this w/candle wax that melted and dried on my tile floor but it worked great and I used a heated iron w/ a paper grocery bag on the iron heated the wax thru the bag and the bag absorbed it all perfectly. I don't know if it would damage your floor or not though, good luck.

WD40 gets off almost anything. Once removed, clean the area with some Murphy's oil soap and hot water.

There is a product called "Goo Gone" that you can use to remove any sticky substance from a non-absorbant surface. It's also really good for removing price stickers from dishes or glasses, or tape from a mirror...etc. I always buy it at a store like Bed Bath and Beyond, but I'm sure a hardware store would carry it. Good Luck!

Laminate floors resist most solvents - the bug and tar cleaner is slow, goo gone is not cheap, but works really well. I usually remove pitch with turpentine.

bleach

The only thing you can try is white spirit on a cloth, but as it is flammable please be careful when working near your open fire. Make sure you stand the bottle well away from it please.

Can you use fiberglass (resin) waterproofing for bathroom flooring? Just before you place the bathroom tiles?
Mar 10, 2009 by vvwdc | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
We use fiberglass waterproofing for ponds, and it works perfectly against leaks, can this also be used for bathroom flooring? When i ask around, most say they use torch applied waterproofing. Further, can you use fiberglass also to waaterproof cement roof deck?
Why is it not a good idea? Let's rule out expense, because for us resin and fiberglass materials are cheap. I'm looking more on durability for long term rather than expense. Is there something about the quality of fiberglass that people don't use it often on bathroom floors? (Because, for ponds, it's the most durable and best choice of waterproofing)
There are vinyl or rubber type membranes that can be used on flooring to water proof them but to truly make them water proof you must flash them up the walls a bit too. But they are truly not water proof unless you build a curb in the doorway , but this isn t practical.
There are easier and more practical system that can be top coated or " painted" on after the floor is prepped for tile with a backer board or what ever is needed in your situation. I use these in showers on any horizontal places all the time. But this still leaves the door way to contend with. Any question as how to do either system correctly, e mail me thru my avatar and you can check my qualifications there GL

What's the best way to clean epoxy painted flooring?
Mar 10, 2008 by Paul L | Posted in Cleaning & Laundry
I have a warehouse that I painted a part of the concrete floor with 2 parts light gray epoxy paint (resin and hardener). As palletjacks and forklift run through them everyday, I have a hard time keeping them look new. They get scuffed, and turn brown, etc. Any suggestion on what I could do?
Very soon, I will also have another part of the floor painted 2 parts epoxy as well. And this time - with quartz. What would be the best way to maintain that?
have some one come in once a week to clean and sweep them redo them with a light strip and application three times a year it is not hard even for a large shop use clean mop's clean water you might even want to look in to steam cleaning with a light pressured machine like a laundow surface cleaner. hire a pro once and see how they do it and remember a thick coat of anything will be hard to clean, just use zip or something just like it but it sounds lie you have just scuff marks so it is not heavily soiled so a lighter solution will work and it will save you money good luck and check out the guy who will do the cleaning do a backround check and dont be cheap you get wot you pay for mate

Where can I buy clear epoxy resin locally?
Apr 10, 2009 by Jon P | Posted in Do It Yourself (DIY)
I am working on a small automotive project that requires an epoxy resin and hardener that dries clear and does not yellow. I looked at home depot already but had no clue what section to look in. I assume it is used in counter tops and flooring but I still have no idea where to start.
Help me please.
