Where can I find custom made stainless steel floor registers?
Jun 12, 2008 by Marc T | Posted in Do It Yourself (DIY)
Take a fabrication drawing to a custom sheet metal shop. They can make it for you but it will be expensive because of low quantity and they have to program your drawing into their NC machine. They call it NRE cost and cost more than fabrication.
If you are handy you can buy a stainless steel sheet and make your own. There are sellers on Ebay that sells stainless sheets of various sizes at a very reasonable price.

Cleaning granite, laminate floors, and stainless steel?
Oct 14, 2007 by Carrie | Posted in Cleaning & Laundry
We're moving into a new house soon (yay) and now I need to know the best and easiest everyday way to clean granite countertops, laminate (pergo type) floors, and stainless steel appliances. Thanks!
To keep the floors from scratching or dulling because of everyday dust or tracked-in dirt, vacuum or sweep on a regular basis. Once a week or so, run a damp mop over the floor. Every so often it would be a good idea to clean the floor using a product specifically formulated for laminate floors. It’s important the mop not be too wet as this can cause the floor to warp. It should go without saying that any spill should be wiped up immediately with a damp cloth or sponge.
Stainless steel kitchen appliances look best when they're clean and shiny. To clean tough stains and cooking grease, and give them a dazzling shine, try the same detergent you would use when washing the dishes. One formulated to cut grease works especially well. This also works well for general kitchen cleaning.Waterless hand soap also works great as a polish, simply rub on, and polish - no rinsing.
Don't use an ordinary kitchen cleaning product to clean granite. The newest technology uses peroxide and detergents to penetrate soiled areas. Simply spray a product such as Bio-OX Citrus Concentrate on the soiled area, allow it to penetrate for a few minutes, then wipe clean. Baking soda can be sprinkled on for a more abrasive cleaning action. Repeat if necessary. Granite can also be cleaned using warm, sudsy water (a mild detergent such as a grease cutting dish detergent or laundry detergent is fine) or a solution of borax and water. Thoroughly rinse and buff dry. To remove stains from granite, make a paste of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide or baking soda and Bio-OX Citrus Concentrate and cover the stain with the paste. Cover the paste with a damp cloth, leave overnight, then wet down and scrub with a nonmetallic scrubbing pad. Rinse thoroughly with clean water. Wipe up any spills as they happen so they don't soak in, and always dry coutertops after washing the dishes.:)

What is the best way to get hardened floor wax off a stainless steel stove?
Nov 20, 2007 by Axe M | Posted in Cleaning & Laundry
We just had a new stainless stove delivered. It was a floor model so we saved a fair bit of money. Unfortunately, we didn't notice until after it was delivered (of course) that there was some hardened floor wax splattered on the bottom of the warming draw. It is not so obvious, but if anyone knows a good way to remove wax from a stove without discoloring the stove, I would love to hear it.
Thanks
Try heating with hair dryer. Use cleanser recommended by stove manufacturer. Should come off depending on how long it's been on there.

I need a color for my kitchen I have stainless steel applainces, a maple floor, light oak cabinets and a lite?
Jul 16, 2006 by Kaymusic | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling
old house big window light maple floor - original 60 years old just uncovered light brown , white spattered color countertop, appliances stainless steel with black handles- need a wall color and wall paper- help
Don't wallpaper a kitchen. There are many shades of taupe/tan that would fit with the floor and counter tops. Look at swatches & bring some home to see how they look.

How do I mend a leaking stainless steel kettle?
Feb 20, 2007 by SmileItWorks | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
My boss has a stainless steel kettle for use on an AGA range cooker. It fell on the kitchen floor and now it has a tiny leak in one place where the base is joined to the sides. The answer is buy a new one, but he refuses on environmental grounds saying it must be fixed. So the question remains, is it possible to fix a leaking stainless steel kettle?
Thank you for the soldering idea, apparently that doesn't work with stainless steel... I think that kettle is getting closer to the bin by the minute!
He's actually very generous (not a scrooge as readers of the question might assume!) but he also cares lots about the environment and not wasting stuff. I reckon I'll tell him to recycle the kettle, unless there's any other cool ideas for fixing it...
What about the stuff used to fix leaks in car radiators! Would that work?
There aren't as many repair shops around as there were before it became as cheap to replace a kettle as to repair it - but you can still find them. Shoes, lights, toasters, computers, TVs: it's often surprisingly cheap to get holes patched up or wiring re-jigged, and infinitely preferable to lobbing great big lumps of plastic and metal into the landfill ...
The Guardian's Rules of Rubbish.
In fact it was this article that inspired the question
There is no way to fix it without brazing or MIG welder, if you can do this yourself or have afriend who will this will work. You may even be able to coerce some one at the local welding shop to do it for really cheap.
Don't solder it, basicly the same as brazing, but brazing is at a much higher temp using different alloys. Solder melts at too low of a temp. (might melt on the stovetop if ever heated too hot) and I really doubt solder would hold on stainless.
Do not use JB weld or radiator stop leak, for one the wouldn't last and secondly they could release harmfull chemicals
(and to the answer below, they do make solder with out lead, this is what is required to solder copper water lines)
And I have to commend anyone who will take the time to fix the existing item instead of buying a new one. Here in the US it is a huge problem, everything is made to be disposible. It is incredibly wastefull. I would rather buy one quality item that last for years than buy cheap ones all of the time. Here in america it is almost a status symbol to have something "brand new", even if it is cheaply made.
