What kind of lighting should I use for a very low ceiling?

My ceiling is about 7.5ft high and I'm trying to find a ceiling lighting scheme that would visually enhance its height?

Well, for starters - don't get any that hang down more than a few inches. If people have to duck when they come in.... it's a sure sign of a low cieling. Also - you may want to hang some vertical pieces of artwork on the walls to draw attention and give the illussion of height. Plus - if you have curtains in the room, try some with a striped design. The thinner the pattern, the better. Place furniture of various heights around the room as well.... that will add some dimensions that trick the eye into thinking that there is more height. I've never wired before, but I'm good at following instruction/direction. I need a small ceiling fixture in my pantry. The nearest outlet is about 5 feet down on the wall. I'd like to install either a recessed light fixture or even a single spot. If there's a website for this, can you direct me?
I would implore you to call a electrician. There are numerous nuances in a simple job(for a electrician)that a layman would not be able to identify and take care of. Wire stapling distance,penetration of walls and headers,installation of the new fixture box according to weight, and the proper termination of the switch leg,neutral,ground,and hot. Not to mention the wall damage that you might incure opening it up without the experience of knowing which way to route the wire. Do yourself a favor and call a pro.

If you now have a flush mount ceiling light fixture in your kitchen, can you install a semi flush mount without having to make any changes?
A flush mount is when the housing is recessed into the ceiling and the lens is flush w/ the ceiling. A semi flush is when the lens protrudes from the ceiling.

I have can ceiling lights with flood lights. Does anyone make compact flourescent flood lights for can lighting.
Osram, Nelson, and Sylvania (and others) do reflector and par38 globes in compact fluorescent. You should be able to pick them up from your local lighting store, or at least order them in.
In relation to color, there are various degrees (color temperature measured in Kelvins) compact fluoros are available in, most commonly being- 2700K warm white- closest to incandescent, 4000K cool white, and 5000K daylight- closest to natural daylight. The daylight color tends to be a little blue, so I recommend cool white for a clean crisp white light.

How do I rough in a lighting fixture in a finished ceiling?

I want to add a light/ceiling fan in a room that currently does not have a light fixture in the center of the ceiling. What I wanted to know is what is the best way to make the cuts from the light switch to the center of the ceiling without taking down a lot of drywall?
if it's a light and your local housing laws does not require you to have your cables secured using pvc casings, I suggest a creative way of using a coloured or white pvc wiring pipe and just fix them onto the wall and ceiling using clips.
If your local law allows conceal wiring, then i suggest cutting out only small portion of the drywall just enough to fix the cables in and later plastering them back. I hope the frame behind the dry wall is aluminium, which is easier to work with. Bore holes thru the structure to allow cables to go thru instead of cutting them. This will ensure minimal damage to the wall. I suggest using pvc pipes to protect the cables from damaging if you're going to do any thing to the wall later on, like hanging a picture frame with a screw.
For teh ceiling, if you've got a false ceiling, chances are you have a service hole, which gains you access to the space inbetween the ceiling and the boards. Lay the cables in with pvc pipes and try to reach for them from holes that you've cut for lights.
For ceiling fans, they can't be mounted on a false ceiling as they're too heavy for them to take. Mount it on the ceiling.

I ordered a set of two for my hall lighting. It is the perfect size the color of the glass is just what I was looking for but have to say a little disappointed with the color of the metal. Was hopping for something a little more on the brown side and this is a little closer to the black. Over all it looks as if will still match my other lighting and cant wait to put up!

I like it. looks nice, easy to install.
Everything I needed to replace the old fixture except a screwdriver was in the box. I especally like that it holds two bulbs. I put in 100 watt equivlent compact floricents and get the extra light that my old eyes need. My wife and I are spending more time together now as we both like to sit under the light to read.

Beautiful product for a lot cheaper than what you get at the stores and trust me i have looked. Bought 2 took about 5-10 min each to put up and look great gives the ceiling that little bit extra then what a flush mount fixture gives.

I purchased two of these lights for hallway lighting. They were simple to put together and installed easily. They are beautiful and the lighting effect can be changed from a soft glow to a brighter glow just by changing the wattage of the bulb. Love them!

Great light for the money
I needed something to match the Seagull Lighting fixtures already in my kitchen but didn't want to pay the Seagull price for such a simple fixture. This Lithonia fixture is very well built and was easy to install. All the included hardware is of reasonable quality. The ballast and lamp are off brands so we'll see how long they last, but they're easy enough to replace later. So far it's been 3 months and they've been okay.

This is a nice bright fluorescent ceiling light that is modern looking. It works great in our galley kitchen and is just the right type of lighting needed, not to mention that the look really blended with our updated kitchen. Great light for the money.

Excellent choice
After shopping in the area and finding overpriced fixtures or low quality fixtures, I went to Amazon and chose these Lithonia lights. I needed both flush and semi-flush for my new addition. These look great, give excellent light and are easy to install. For me, it was the right way to go.

Great complimentary piece
This is just one of several matching pieces I purchased. Was able to do a complete lighting package for a remodel. Bought this for foyer and I think it was the best looking piece of all. For the money, these were a great deal. Beautiful, with reasonably good quality. Would have been impossible to find bargain fixtures like these at Lowe's or Home Depot. Seller also has a ceiling fan with a light kit that is a great match for the other pieces.
Great Light
This light looks wonderful in our kitchen! Both our dining room light and hall light can be seen from the kitchen and luckily, this matched the others. You cannot really tell from the picture that it has a swirling, frosted look to it, though. It was easy to install, too.

Cheap, but not worth the price.
The fixtures, when finally installed, is beautiful. However, the instructions were almost useless. It included very general instruction which didn't necessarily coordinate with the light fixture I purchased. Also, the decorative round nuts that secure the fixture to the ceiling are difficult to handle, and impossible to secure tightly. And, now that they're tightened, I don't know that I will every be able to remove the fixture from my ceiling.
Overall the fixture is beautiful and inexpensive. Notwithstanding, it's still not a good deal. You get what you pay for.

We bought our house two years ago and all the light fixtures have brass, very 90's. So we decided to go with oil rubbed bronze color scheme. The fixture is easy to install (15mins) and looks great at our hallway.

We ordered the entire set for our living room, dining room, and breakfast area. They are perfect!! The chandelier is the perfect size for a smaller dining room as it does not overpower the room.

Not as expected...
The picture of this ceiling light is very deceiving. It looks like the base of the lamp is flush with the ceiling, which was the sleek look that I was after. But it is not. There is an additional base depth of about 3 inches of a smaller diameter that the pic does not show. When installed, the large round base is actually "hanging" 3 inches from the ceiling. While the quality and finish seem fine, this lamp seems over-priced. IKEA sells one that looks very much like it at under $10, that DOESN'T use a specialty bulb (read expensive).
