Cool 12-V Auto Accessories - Interior lighting.?

Everytime I go to Pep Boys I see these cool car-interior light accentation accessories for sale, but they all have this stupid wire meant to be plugged into the 12Volt plug.

Is it alot of trouble to bypass that and connect these to the battery for continuous operation rather than having to see dangling wires everywhere?

How do you do it? What kind of work is involved? I'd hate to say I'm a handyman but nothing is further from the truth.

Hey Ryder.. that website you gave me is absolutely AWESOME. I wish I knew how to do all this crap myself! Your explanation is great but it sounds a bit beyond what I can do. I guess I"ll have to keep wishing.. or find someone who knows how to do any of it. :O(

Should be pretty easy, a little time consuming but its not rocket science. I wired a few interrior neons myself.
What you need to do is open up the hood and look for any holes on the firewall where wires go through there should be one if your car has been wired for an amplifier or anything. Check under the dash on the drivers side. if there isn't a hole, find a spot where a wire runs thru and drill yourself a small hole next to it, making sure you don't hit anything important. run the wires thru the hole and use a couple ring terminals and tighten them into your battery connections. You may also want to run an inline fuse to prevent your lights from burning up in the case of a power surge. Once you have the power wires ready to be hooked up to the battery (don't do it yet, just get them ready) wire the power wires to a switch so the lights aren't on all the time and draining your battery, and wire the switch to your lights. Ground = negative (black) for both the batter and the light, source = red power line from battery, and accesory = the power line to the light. have fun.
