Is there a cheap way to ship a pool table light to Europe from Canada?
Nov 26, 2007 by minshullj | Posted in Other - Cars & Transportation
I need to ship a box 51x33x17 inches to The Neatherlands from Canada and am getting quotes from DHL, FedEx and UPS for $600+. At present I'm thinking of having it shipped from the US via FedEx for $440 but I'd like to ship it from Canada and I don't mind if it goes by boat. Any suggestions for who might offer this type of service?
You might get it cheaper shipped by boat/cargo container, but it could take months. $440 via FedEx sounds like a good price if you want to get it there quickly.
Good luck!

Does anyone have any ideas on making my own pool table light out of plastic and wood?
Jan 02, 2008 by Okobojibel | Posted in Do It Yourself (DIY)
Sparky, I love that idea. I will do all you have said but to make it more decorative I am wondering if I cut out the sides of the wooden pieces to make framed openings then get some plexaglass and maybe simulate stained glass? with paint or decals or something. thanks for any and all suggestions!
I think Ellie must have misunderstood your question. ;-)
What you can do is take a piece of wood and cut to the required length. you will need to attatch a chain to both ends or you could use some heavy duty nylon string. then you put some hooks in the ceiling above the table so you can hang your lighting rack. ok so you have your wood, all you need then is 2 ordinary household table lamps. dismantle the lamps so you can attatch them to your piece of wood, drill holes in the wood so you can trail the wires out of the way. I would recommend using 2 lamps so you will be able to light the whole of the table. You will probably need to extend the wiring for the lights so you can plug them in.

how do you hang a pool table light?
Oct 25, 2006 by Schick2 | Posted in Do It Yourself (DIY)
I know the height and have everything ready to go...my only question is how to physically mount it to the ceiling...what hardware to use
okay, where the light will currently line up, one side of it will go into the stud/joist, but the other side currently goes into the drywall. I do not have an attic (houses in vegas don't like them for some reason) and I cannot get into the attic to assist. Knowing that, on the side where it is mounted on the drywall, how would you mount it?
I imagine the pool light is fairly heavy - if so attaching to sheetrock in the ceiling may not be strong enough, regardless of whether you use wing bolts, molly's etc. If you're lucky the ceiling joists will line up and you can screw eyelet screws directly into the wooden joists. If the light does not line up with the solid ceiling joists, you could use short pieces of 2 X 4 to act as bracing. Just attach this across the span of the joists where the light will be hanging. Now you can drill holes through the ceiling and into solid wood, regardless of where the joists are. You could then attach the light using long lag screws, eyelet screws or any type of bolt long enough for the project. You could even use wire. Good luck - once you begin looking into the project, you'll begin to realize it's pretty easy and straight-forward.

What is the best color to paint a living room with light color hardwood floors and a dark stain pool table?
Feb 16, 2007 by michael_barnecut | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling
30'X15': So long and skinny. Floors are light hardwood, pool table is dark stained, room is white right now and there is a west facing plate glass window. Not sure what color would help bring out the hardwood floors and table the best, everything else in the room can be changed. Also thinking about doing crown molding, any suggestions?
A gold or warm beige tone willl enhance the light wood floor and make the dark table "pop" out.
A dark red (like a wine-color) or a dark fir green will make the room more close and cozy but with the big window and not a lot of other furniture you can get away with it. Make sure they are warm tones not cool.
Get some swatches and pin them on the walls for a few days. Or buy just a pint of paint colors you want to try & dab them on the walls. Observe color in morning, afternoon and evening artificial light,l then choose the one you like best.
Crown molding is always nice and adds value to the room by defining the height.
