Recessed lighting?
Sep 19, 2007 by ► M | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling
I have recessed lighting in my living room & kitchen, and have recently noticed that the outter rings (baffles) on those lights are now yellowish in color, they used to be white. Is this just age?
I bought my house new, in 1992. My sister has the same issue with her recessed lighting.
No one in the house has ever smoked, and there is no grease or dust on them.
it its age and bodily debris like dust and grease it should clean of with some formula 409

Do you smoke or anyone else smoke inside? Could be tobacco residue. You can change them out though. It's not that hard.

How to get more light out of recessed lighting?
Dec 04, 2006 by shannonkayfranks | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling
I have 6 recessed lights in my basement with white solid (not baffle) trims that are sized for R30 with no space on the sides. I would like for these lights to give off more lighting. I have video taped my daughter walking her first steps and other firsts, (we hang out here most of the time) and it's a bit dark. So, I'm thinking I need more light to get better video/photos. Will replacing the baffles (or whatever you call them) give me more light? If so, will reflective be better than step baffle, etc?
WITHOUT KNOWING THE SIZE OF THE MAX BLUB U CAN USE IN THESE FIXTURES WHICH U MAY WANT TO CHECK, THERE IS ALSO A HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT WING NUT INSIDE AFTER REMOVING THE BLUB WHICH WILL ALLOW U TO LOWER THE BLUB FOR BETTER LIGHT SPRAY. SEE IF THAT WILL WORK. ALSO MAKE SURE U ARE USING THE PROPER FLOOD BLUBS IN THE FIXTURE.

Is it easy to install recessed lighting?
Sep 26, 2007 by Gallo | Posted in Do It Yourself (DIY)
I have a little experience with switching out globes and simple electric wiring. How much more difficult is it to install recessed lighting?
The developers left two holes that are capped off in our lower floor and I'd like to throw in some more light. Is it a similar and non time consuming project?
I believe they already wired everything to a switch in the wall. There's a switch on the wall that leads to nothing, so I believe they ran the wiring to the two holes to that one switch....
as long as you've got simple experience then the only pain would be gettin the fixtures flush, but it really ain't that hard

What is the average cost to install recessed lighting in the central region/ southern coast?
Dec 18, 2008 by lazfitz | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling
I want to make small changes at a time and I want to start by ading some recessed lighting to 2 bathrooms, a kitchen, and a small living room and entry. Any one have any ideas about how much it would cost?
If the installation is easy, then it is quite inexpensive (say approximately $40 a piece including a basic fixture) however, if you have obstructions above your ceiling or other challenges to installing the wiring then the cost moves up from there.

Should I use PAR30 or PAR38 lights for basement recessed lighting?
Oct 29, 2007 by shektbg | Posted in Do It Yourself (DIY)
I am finishing my basement and have installed 6" recessed lighting housings. I don't know if I would be better off installing baffles and trim for PAR 30 or PAR 38 halogen lighting. Any suggestions or thoughts?? Which is more common?
that really depends on the trim that you use. if it is wide then use par38 if it tapers in as it goes into the can use par 30. either one you use will give you a similiar light output. par 30 is more common. if your socket position in the can is movable make sure you get par 30 short necks if not get par 30 long necks. let me know which manufacturer you used and what model #'s and i can tell you exactly which lamps to use
