I want to use a air stapler gun for my carpet installation?

May 30, 2007 by Jeremy M | Posted in Do It Yourself (DIY)

its for a mobile home with i think like 1" floor boards, and the staples are narrow crown staples by aout 3/4 to 1" in length, so what would I need for a air compressor as in minimum lbs of air, I was thinking a 100lb max compressor might do it, or do you think thats too small there are also some 125lb ones and a 150lb one, which would be the most suitable, would the 100lb work?....the flooring i believe is just press board....help!....and thanks ahead......I need Fast reliable answers.....lot of projects to do

I currently live in a mobile, have carpet to install but over padding and kicked them tapped onto carpet tack strip. No sin in staples, but not my choice.

Compressor

2 weeks ago I was in HD for whatever and saw a 100 PSI compressor with narrow crown staple///brad nail gun, hose all the fittings a quick release, dual gauges, oil for the gun, allen keys, paperwork for $79.99. Campbell Hausfeld,,, Odd name for a tool made in China, but what else should I expect.

If I had a use for more I would have bought two. I've used it every day for two weeks with great satisfaction,,,and it was inexpensive enough that if it quits,,, I got what I needed from it.

Admittedly that may have been a promo item and regional, but I have found them before in many places. I'm sure Northern Tool/ Pep Boys, etc. has similar.

I imagine one of those electric ones will do the job.
Speak to the guys at the hire service, they'll know, and it may save you a bundle of money to hire on for the day.

a 100 lb one should do fine. when I was building houses we used a 150 but that was mostly for framing.

Some staple guns have a limit as to the psi 80-100 is plenty for most with a 1/2 inch staple. Electric works fine too. However I don't recommend it , I recommend tack stip and a knee kicker instead. If you ever have to replace your carpet later it's going to be very, very hard with stapels in it.

short wide staples for air stapler?

Oct 17, 2008 by rossu | Posted in Do It Yourself (DIY)

can anyone tell me what brand/size staple and gun i would use to shoot short, wide staples (something like 1/2" long and 1" wide). I need these to shoot on the backside of a square picture frame type thing, if you will, made of 1x3' or 4's. For clarity, the corners are cut at 45's, need a staple that will connect the corner. I would rather use staples than a finish nailer or screws. Thanks in advance.

air staples will not hold the frame together. the frame will fold forward and not lay correctly.

Where can I find an apholstery stapler thats not too expensive?

Feb 26, 2008 by 3120love | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs

I am looking for a simple apholstery stapler that dosen't need an air compressor for usability. I need to staple down inside a narrow ridge, so the flat staplers will not work for this. Where can I buy one?

Arrow makes an electric staple gun that also shoots brads. They start at around $20 and are very handy to have around the house. As a professional upholsterer with over 20 years experience I can tell you that tacks are not the way to go. They don't hold as well as staples, they are much harder for an amateur to use, and you have to buy a magnetic hammer (about $8-$10) or have 3 hands. Oh, and the hammer is almost worthless for anything except upholstery tacks.

Does anybody know what type of foam & thichness to use a weight bench. Mine has disintegrated over the years?

Nov 05, 2008 by brewmyownbrew | Posted in Hobbies & Crafts

I can remove to top cover and I have a air powered finishing stapler to re-attach it so that's not a problem

You probably need 3" plastic foam which can be purchased at a fabric or upholstery fabric store. It costs about $8.00 per foot and comes in 18" widths.

what kind of air compressor?

Dec 29, 2008 by Roberto W | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs

for hard wood flooring (stapler )
that is suitable ?2 gallon 4 gallon 6 gallon
and what brand ?thanx im a newbie at this.

Don't BUY a compressor just to install one floor. RENT one.

And you have 2 things to consider when matching an air compressor to a tool... the needed PSI (Pounds per Square Inch), and the CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute). PSI is how much pressure the compressor will build up -- very few will actually go over 125 psi. The CFM is how much VOLUME of air the compressor will move. MOST compressors will list their ratings as xx CFM at 90 psi, and XX CFM at 40 psi -- this is because most of them cannot produce as many CFM at 90 psi as they can at 40 psi.

And as to the argument against oil less compressors -- it all depends on how you maintain them. I've got an oil-less 2.2 hp compressor that I've used for many many years, day in and day out, for work. The only thing I've had to replace is the feed line that runs from the compressor to the tank... I've dented and split that copper line a few times over the years from rough handling, hehehe.

So -- look at the nail gun you want to use, and see how much air it needs... the psi, and if it mentions it, the CFM. Get a compressor too small, and you'll just need to wait for it to build up pressure before you can fire the gun again, that's all.

By the way -- you can often borrow the nail gun and compressor from wherever you buy the flooring materials, sometimes for free.

Have Fun :)
