Many models require you to push the spring in towards the front of the gun and then pull it up and back. Try variations. But you have to push the spring forward to disengage the lock on many models.

Take the stapler and the brads back to Sears and have the salesperson show you how to load it.
Good luck with your problem.

Sequoia-Kings Canyon National Park Officials Want To Replace Three Backcountry ...
09.09.10
Officials in Sequoia and Kings Defile national parks hunger for to replace three decrepit backcountry ranger cabins, which, judging from photos, seems like a intelligent decision. But should they be allowed to use power tools and helicopters in the wilderness settings to get the drudgery done?
According to the environmental assessment currently at for public magazine , three cabins would be replaced: Le Conte Gill, Rae Lakes, and Crabtree Pasture. All are located in authorized wilderness, areas that customarily are off-limits for mechanized mat.
Under the parks' preferred surrogate, up to 50 helicopter flights per install would be used to transfer materials, which embrace roughly 15 tons of logs, lumber, and tools; maybe 10 tons of realistic and mortar; a 3.5 kW generator to power tools, which would embody an "electric hold mixer, shallow chainsaw, (and an) electrifying air compressor to run power nailers and roofing staplers."
Additionally, the crews would be expert to use electric indirect saws and cordless drills if the preferred additional is signed off on.
While that might seem to be a magnanimous intrusion on a wilderness home, there is a caveat within the Wilderness Act that allows for "colourless transport" and structures in designated wilderness if deemed "important to meet the least requirement for the management of the area..."
At Sequoia, which is heartlessly 96 percent officially designated wilderness, spokeswoman Adrienne Freeman said reservation officials put faith using helicopters to ferry in the materials and power tools so the cabins can be right away erected will in the crave-run have a much more minimal effect on the wilderness settings than if the put did away with the backcountry cabins and sent well-proportioned patrols into the areas.
