Which is better for bamboo flooring, a floor stapler gun or a floor nail gun?

May 18, 2007 by nicko | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling

I did one room with the nail gun that required the use of a mallet but seems so time consuming. I was wondering is the use of a floor stapler gun would do as good as a job. The bamboo floor is stronger than the wood. Would the staples go in?

Here are instructions for BOTH nailed or stapled bamboo flooring. Good luck with your new floor! You will love it.

http://www.hardwoodinstaller.com/hardwoodinstaller/bamboo-installing.htm

I doubt the staples would go in without splitting the bamboo but you can try one staple and see if it holds good and if not just you the nail gun.

check around you mite find it a Lumber liquidators that have bamboo floating floor no nails or glue locks together

Stapler or nailer for 3/4" Hardwood flooring?

Jan 26, 2008 by Jer ! | Posted in Do It Yourself (DIY)

Anyone know whether it is better to buy a stapler or cleat nailer to install 3/4" hardwood floors?

Also who makes the better one, Bostitch or Paslode? Anyone tried the cheap Rona one?

Thanks

My buddys dad owns a hardwood flooring company that mills floors out of old lumber. His men use paslode nailers. I know this guy has plenty money and buys good quality stuff. I helped them put in some floors before.
With wood floors expanding in the heat and contracting in the cold I would choose a nail over a staple.
GOOD LUCK!

what kind of compressor is compatible with a bostitch floor stapler?

Apr 22, 2008 by eng37ine | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs

Look at the CFM and choose a compressor with a tank that fits it. You might also look at the "duty cycle" (how many minutes of each hour a compressor is rated to run).

Other than that, you'll have to decide if you are running more than one gun and keeping a good stride, or have never done this before and will take a while to set each board, then more time to nail it down.

bought power floor stapler on ebay for $140 plus $43 shipping, Did I pay to much?

Jul 13, 2008 by rallman@sbcglobal.net | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs

probably off brand

If you put in a single floor with it yourself rather than having somebody else do it, it will have paid for itself many times over.

So I wouldn't worry about it if you can look at it that way.

Floor Stapler?

Mar 31, 2008 by Don Glarr | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs

What gauge staples/cleats should I use to put down a 5/8 inch bamboo flooring? Can floor staplers accommodate a range of gauges?

I think you should use your nail gun. It's so cool. I wish I owned a nail gun!

Customer Reviews

Worked flawlessly for me
I used this stapler to put down ~400ft^2 of engineered hickory flooring. It was easy enough to setup. The adjustable cleat has lots of degrees of freedom, but once I set it up, it never moved or required any adjustment throughout the job. I like that the safety won't engage when the clip is empty preventing dry-fires. The drive depth was consistent from start to finish. I have an adjustable regulator on the hose end and once I dialed it in, I never had to touch it even after starting/stopping over multiple evenings. Though the magnesium makes it light, it still feels solid and well built. I'm happy with my purchase.
I had high hopes
Worked for about ten feet of BR-111 5/16" thick chestnut flooring before dying on me. Trigger wouldnt pull and nose was stuck in. My PSI was set at 62 pounds, the staples used were the ones that came with the kit and I set up the gun quickly using the supplied directions. Called Bostitch for support and they directed me to an authorized warranty center (Apollo Power Equipment in Niles Illinois) to have the gun looked at. Went there at 10:15AM and left about 11:30 with the gun fiddled with but NOT repaired. Called the vendor who sold me the gun (SpeedyNails) and they said they would not replace the gun and that it was a warranty issue. Took it to Pro-Mar in Chicago and fixed it in about 15 minutes. Got back to jobsite and used it successfully for about three hours before I had to leave for the day. I was impressed with how quiet it was and how the staples drove in cleanly and consistently. However, the safety button on the side of the gun didnt seem to want to stay in "fire" mode and clicked off with the slightest touch. It was quite maddening to have to pull the gun away from the work, flip the safety and then re-engage to the work to fire more staples. It should have a more clear detent position on or off. Hooked it up this morning and it died again with the same symptoms after about an hour and a half of use. I briefly considered frisbeeing it from the 25th floor. Bostitch is sending me another gun to replace this one and I hope it works better. I've never had ANY issue with my other Bostitch nail and staple guns. I will update this review after I've received and used the replacement.

Great Nailer at a fraction of the cost
Great nailer at a great price. Amazon quickly shipped the nailer and I opened it to find everything perfect and in place. Installed 600 sq feet of 3/4" Brazillian Cherry with no issues. I didn't have the issue that others had with having to add duct tape to the shoe to get the right angle. No problems with the mallet. The floor looks great. I would recommend this nailer for someone looking to do a DIY floor project and doesn't want to spend a fortune. Not sure how this would hold up in a contractor situation, but it fit my needs.
Nailer
Excellent product for the money spent. Easy to use and does a great job nailing into oak.
Worked well... after some modifications
This worked, but there were some issues. I had to modify a couple of things. For the 1/2 inch product I was installing, the plastic piece you put on the stapler to adjust it for 1/2 inch material was nowhere near tall enough. I had to template 5 pieces of cardboard and add thoes underneath the plastic piece to make it the appropriate height for the 1/2 inch material I was installing. I also had an issue with the sharp metal corners of the part where the staple comes out... If I wasn't VERY careful with it, it would damage the wood, simple filing down and rounding off of those metal corners solved this problem and I was able to go MUCH faster with the tool without worrying about damaging the product. All and all, after some modifications, the tool worked perfectly, the staples set in correctly and easily.
happy in middletown
I recieved my nail gun in two business days.I'm an independant contactor and was doing 920 sq. ft. of flooring. The gun worked great and I had no misfires at all. Near the end I had to tighten some screws near the head but that wasn't bad for 6000 nails. I think its a great product and looks good . I also like the no trigger feature because that can be a pain.
nice tool for the price
I highly recomend this product, using it for 3/4 inch solid hardwood using 2 inch staples has not misfired yet, excellent tool for the money.

BOSTITCH MIIIFS STAPLER PURCHASED @ AMAZON
The Stapler worked great, only had to hit down on the trigger once with the hammer that came with it. Used 2" long Bostitch staples every 8 to 12 inches and it made the job easy.
Wicked Reliable
I have had mine for about seven years and it has never given me any trouble. These things have a lot of power and really get the boards together nice and tight. Another nice thing is that the staples are available at Home Depot etc. I have put in countless floors and even lent it out several times and it still works great. I am about to purchase a second one and can't wait to try it with the prefinished floor foot that it now comes with. Tip: You usually use these in combination with a finish nailer (for the starting and ending rows). You can blind nail with the finish nailer. I usually take the rubber tip off to get in close. I use a Hitachi 15 gauge angled finish nailer and when I get too close to the far wall for the Hitachi I switch to a smaller straight 16 gauge finish nailer. I also keep an 18 gauge finish nailer handy for when a board is ripped down to where I am worried about splitting it (face nailing it). Good luck.
A good deal on flooring stapler
I was familiar with this tool and was happy to find a good deal on a reconditioned one. It has served flawlessly for two thousand square feet of cherry flooring, and I anticipate selling it locally for what I paid when I'm done with this project. Excellent service on the sale as well. No complaints whatsoever.http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000224PN/ref=cm_cr_rev_prod_title
contractor grade
This is the real thing, what the professional hardwood installers use. Easy to use with an air compressor unit. Got it at a great price from amazon, compared to Home Depot and Lowes. Used it to finish my Study and now plan to do the rest of first level floors and the stairs. I recommend this model (stapler) compared to the floor nailer.
Excellent
Just ordered this stapler and used it on 300sf. Great product. Not a single misfire.

A great tool for a do it your selfer
I have just finished installing 405 SF of #1 common Red Oak flooring. The Bostitch stapler worked so well I am a little sad that I am finished with it. I ran it at about 95 for the pressure and never had a single jam. Could not be more pleased with the product.
great buy
The Factory-Reconditioned Bostitch U/MIIIFS Pneumatic Flooring Stapler that I purchased arrived on time, and worked great. I had rented one for a week (bye bye $130)so knew that it would do the job. I should have just purchased the Reconditioned Bostitch to start with. Have installed about 1,100 feet of hardwood floor with no problems. Great product at a great price
Unhappy
The base comes loose from the main frame and I suspect that's why it's a Re-con. They should have done a better re-con or not at all!!!!!
Good as New
This was advertised as factory reconditioned but it looked and operated brand new. Compared to the prices these staplers are going for used and brand new , this is a bargain. I recommend it.
This is a stapler! Not a nail gun.

The section titled Frequently Purchased Together includes FLN-200 Nails. Most Pneumatic fasteners I've use can use either nails or staples. This one ONLY uses staples, so don't get the nails.

I did a great deal of prep work, gathered tools, got everything ready, only to find that I bought the wrong fasteners. Several people have obviously made this mistake, causing Amazon's computers to attach them on this page. Frustrating and I don't see a way to let Amazon know so they can fix the issue.

Product Description

An provident and well made general purpose hardwood flooring stapler. Although not recommended for commercial use, as a backup appliance for the contractor, or for the person laying their own floors (way cheaper than a few days rental!) the value in this contrivance is hard to beat. And when done your floor, you can easily twitch of the nose for a standard one (included) which converts the vehicle to a standard narrow crown stapler/combination 18 test brad nailer!

Customer Reviews

A great flooring stapler at a great price!!!
I installed 800+ feet of 3/8 engineered oak hardwood flooring using over 8000 staples, and the stapler worked perfectly. There were no miss-fires, and the stapler would not shoot a staple if I didn't have it lined up correctly - which is a huge plus, because I've used others in the past that would put a staple in the surface of the floor if you didn't have it placed on the tongue properly. Even if you're only going to install a few hundred square feet of flooring, this is worth buying because it costs about the same as renting a unit for 3 days, and it's brand new and not abused like most rental units are.

Also a HUGE plus with this stapler is that it uses 1/4" staples instead of the 3/16" staples that Bostich and the cheaper Bynford stapler use - and that will save you the cost of the unit on a larger project. I got 5,000 1/4" staples from amazon.com for $8.50 per box with no tax and free shipping. The local H**e D*p*t wanted $25.00 for 5,000 for the 3/16" staples. I used 3 boxes and that saved me over $50.00 alone.

Another PLUS is the ability to use multiple size staples, and not just 1" staples... and of course it can also be used as a brad nailer to install the shoe molding after you're done with the flooring... yet another cost savings... I haven't used it as a brad nailer yet since I already own a Bostich brad nailer.

This stapler has already made me much more money than I paid for it and the quality seems good, especially for the price. The only con I can think of is the instruction manual is very poor, and if your not very mechanically inclined, of haven't used a flooring stapler before, it's not real clear how to adjust the stapler for the flooring size. Once I got the stapler adjusted for my particular floor thickness - it worked perfect and lined up great and I was able to shoot staples as fast as I could move along the floor board.

Last thing - Bob at Woodworker Specialties was great in replying to my emails and questions. I would definitely purchase from them again even if they're price were higher (which they are not - they're lower). And fulfillment by amazon was another plus for me since I'm an amazon.com Prime member and got free 2 day shipping.

Buy this item with confidence - any issues will be resolved by amazon.com and Woodworker Specialties with just one email - so it's a no brainer in my mind
PRODUCT IS EXCELLENT ! !
THE FIRST FLOOR STAPLER I BOUGHT WAS NOT WHAT I NEEDED FOR THE HARDWOOD FLOOR I WAS PUTTING DOWN. AFTER TALKING WITH BOB AT WOOD WORKERS SPECIATIES,,HE HELPED ME OUT AND GOT ME THE RIGHT FLOOR STAPLER FOR THE RIGHT JOB,,,,THANKS BOB ! ! ANYWAY, YES I WOULD BUY FROM HIM AGAIN, BUT NEXT TIME I WILL TALK WITH HIM FIRST IF I HAVE ANY QUESTIONS BEFORE MY PURCHASE,,,,,,,,,

Tasers and RCMP apologies

Giving the RCMP gismo guns, arming customs clerks at the trim, the indiscriminate use of Tasers, granting guns to go cops in Vancouver and now talk of working the visitors hub from the Peace Turret to the opposite side of the Parliament Hill green.

This is all part of the psychosis of bugbear-based policies. The sound-wing conduct as cowards who fright the shadows of bunnies bounding through the Cimmerian dark. A terrorist under every lurch. Every citizen feared as a likely enemy of the say. Over reaction built upon sweaty inkling.

It's tempo to take a step back and commiserate with that Canada is not the Combined States – and appreciation heaven for that.

Police officers have a complex job for sure. Unfortunately, too many of them rely heavily upon the in the flesh power entrusted to them, preferably of their wits and perspicaciousness. Too many seek the adrenaline hurry-up they experience in such situations.

The expiration of Polish outsider Robert Dziekanski, Tasered again by RCMP officers at Vancouver airport, is such an pattern. He died from nothing less than the coppers brutality. Apology indeed – Canada looks like some undecided fascist republic.

The videotape of the commotion makes it defray that officers arrived on the get around with no intention to break in peacefully if imaginable but rather to use whatever force they could to overcome this man. Indeed, he may not have needed to be downcast at all if certain other steps had enchanted
